THR reports that Fox News liberal commentator Marc Lamont Hill has been fired from Fox News. At an annual News Corp. meeting today, chairman Rupert Murdoch is said to have "revealed the move after a shareholder had raised the question of how Hill was hired, citing his 'reputation of defending cop killers and racists.'" Hill's firing has been confirmed. THR's Georg Szalai:
Hill, a frequent guest on "The O'Reilly Factor" and other Fox News shows, has been the target of increasing criticism on the blogosphere for alleged sympathies to controversial figures including Assata Shakur and Mumia Abu-Jamal. Though Hill bills himself as an expert on hip-hop culture, he also drew fire for serving as a liberal foil for various Fox News personalities on subjects far from his stated area of expertise.
Think Progress points out that Hill was on Fox Business Network as recently as yesterday.
Rupert Murdoch continued Fox News Channel's duel with the White House on Friday while also announcing the termination of the network's left-leaning analyst Marc Lamont Hill.
Asked about the White House's recent suggestion that Fox News is acting like an arm of the Republican Party, Murdoch simply said at a shareholders meeting that the criticism has "tremendously increased their ratings."
White House officials have recently stepped up pointed criticism of Fox News in blog postings and media appearances.
Murdoch also said that Hill has been fired. He revealed the move after a shareholder had raised the question of how Hill was hired, citing his "reputation of defending cop killers and racists."

Hill also recently defended ousted White House official Van Jones on "On the Record With Greta Van Susteren."
My comment: good.
Information provided as background to another thread posted here today.
No matter how well spoken, he was an OBVIOUS racist.
Thank goodness. I do have a question, where in a sane society is Al Sharpton given a forum?
Hill is a hard core commie in the mold of Bill Ayers sans terrorist acts. Good riddance to him. My mother will be thrilled. She says “he jabbers too much.” Pretty bad when a woman says a guy talks too much.
O’Reilly has to find another fair and balanced talker.
Could this be Obama enemy list pushback by FOX?
I always liked him on Red Eye. He was quite funny.
Speaking of talking too much, how about THIS idiot?

No loss, O’Reilly kept him around because he was a mental midget representing the opposite view. He was just a waste of time to watch anyway.
He sure was funny on Red Eye.
I had to look him up. Both my wife and I can’t stand the smooth talking jerk. Obvouisly educated yet morally twisted, we got used to changing the channel rather than listen to him justify twisted evil appearance after appearance.
I bid a fond ‘farewell’ to the fast talking, socialist pin head.
I’ll do my best to not shed a tear.
I thought he was a good sport, as an admitted liberal.
Maybe he’ll still guest. He’s got a sense of humor.
I agree. I never was too offended by what he said. Surprised but not offended. Good Sense of Humor
Arghhh! I couldn’t even listen to the entire two minutes and thirty nine seconds. Mom objects to his side-to-side head thing more than his speech patterns though. She called him bobble-head before I ever saw it said on FR.
al jazeera is hiring.
