Is the National Rifle Association ashamed of its own endorsement, or are the media lying to us once again? I was stunned to read that the N.R.A. endorsed pro-gay, pro-abortion, climate alarmist, socialist Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava for Congress in the special, off-year election in New York's 23rd district. The N.R.A. is pro-gun rights, not (necessarily) conservative, but a moderate Democrat helps the N.R.A. maintain its nonpartisan status and reputation more than supporting a liberal Republican. On the other hand, the media widely reported that the N.R.A. endorsed former Vermont governor and Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean. The reality is that the N.R.A. merely gave Dean high grades, but did not endorse him over any other candidate.
Trying to find the truth, I visited the web sites of the National Rifle Association, the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund and the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action. On the latter two sites, I found endorsements in the Virginia, and New Jersey governors' races, as well as many local endorsements in Oklahoma. No mention of any endorsement in NY 23rd.
If you live in the area, please your local N.R.A. chapter for confirmation. If they deny it, complain to the local newspapers about this misinformation. If they confirm, be sure to register your disapproval however you see fit.
“The active NRA members on this board have the initials in their tagline or their homepage.”
> When did that become a requirement? Do I have to list ALL the pro gun-rights groups I belong to?
“Nonmembers and people sitting on the sidelines dont have the right to criticize.”
> The hell they don’t. You don’t have to be a card-carrying member to ask why the NRA endorsed someone who most likely will defect to the Dems once elected.
Bookmark for future reference.
The NRA (And that’s National Rifle Association, not National Republican Association) is a single issue advocacy group. The NRA does gun rights and only gun rights. They don’t do the “bigger issues”. That’s how they came to be the most powerful, most successful advocacy group in the US. As to endorsements, they will always reward actual, pro-gun voting records, even from liberal Democrats, over promises.

I agree with you. You are right. They are a “one trick pony” as I said. But that myopic kind of tunnel vision means that they can support a candidate that looks good on their little hobby horse issue, but on all the other issues they OPPOSE freedom. Those they have endorsed often hold positions on OTHER issues that UNDERMINES their supposed dedication to the “right to keep and bear arms.” They even endorsed Harry Reid one time, for crying out loud!
If one wishes to support NRA, that’s fine. But I cannot support a candidate based on one issue — nor fund an organization with such a limited perspective on the issues at hand. There are other organizations that support the 2nd Amendment and recognize that CONSISTENT affirmation of Constitutional principles are necessary to protect our freedoms.
? No, it is not. To start with we don't know they endorsed her, Newt said that in order to justify his endorsing her. Two: the only reason you still have gun rights at all today is the NRA and it's sister organizations around the country.
Fine, you have to criticize if that’s what you want. You also have the right to not know what you’re writing about and using your ignorance of a subject you know nothing about. Better?
Learn about your subject by joining the NRA instead of sitting on the sidelines and doing nothing.
The NRA endorsed Reid? Thank you for that background info on the NRA. WE are no longer sending dues.
well worded post, you sound like you know the NRA well. a question patriot: grover norquist, the well known founder of the islamic institute, married to a muslim, a huge lobbyist, agenda setter and fund raiser for the muslim terrorist front group, C.A.I.R. is said to be a past and current NRA boardmember AND the NRA knew/knows of his terrorist enabling anti American activities and keeps him seated!!! have you heard anything about this? can this be true? is this true? I find it hard to believe.
Yes, very excellent post, patriot preacher!
Some hot-heads on this thread think that you cannot question the NRA and acccuse you of being an ‘idiot’ if you do. He/she even claims that all “active members” have their memberships listed on their homepage or tagline! Another even claims to know the inner workings of Newt’s mind! Now that’s scary.
I’ll continue sending my dues to NRA, GOA, SAF, NYS Rifle & Pistol Assn., Jew for Preservation of Firearms Ownership, etc.

Perhaps you should not try to second-guess your buddy Newt. It is a fact, as seen below:
“The Republican candidate in the race for New York’s 23rd district has received an endorsement. The National Rifle Association threw its support behind Dede Scozzafava.”
“During your tenure in the New York Assembly, you have been a strong and consistent supporter of the Second Amendment,” NRA chairman Chris Cox wrote in an endorsement letter to Scozzafava.”
“Scozzafava has two opponents in the race, Democrat Bill Owens and Conservative Doug Hoffman. The special election is set for November 3rd.”
