Sales of guns and ammunition soared when Barack Obama became president because of fears that he and the Democratic-controlled Congress would pass anti-gun legislation, and that concern still shows up in a Gallup poll conducted Oct. 1-4. Forty-one percent of Americans believe Obama will try to ban the sale of guns while in office, according to the poll. While Gallup put the question in the framework of a ban on all guns, it notes that "Obama has never said, either on the campaign trail or after taking office, that he intends to push for a ban on the sale of all guns. Nevertheless, the reports of increased sales of guns and ammunition suggest that certain segments of society -- in particular, gun owners -- are acting as if this belief is true."
A majority -- 52 percent -- don't believe Obama will try to ban gun sales.
Fifty-five percent of those Gallup polled own a gun and 53 percent say there is a gun in their household.
Sixty-two percent of Republicans voice the fear of an Obama-inspired gun ban while only 20 percent of Democrats say the same. The highest level of concern is in the South and Midwest where 47 percent and 46 percent respectively are worried about a ban.
How about a loud tape recording of a 12 ga being cocked? Or is that still too dangerous.
Ah, I see. Thanks.
Well in local stores Denver area, primers have left the shelves. Do you have any internet sources you can point me to that are still “in stock”?
"...the sound of the round being chambered causing brown stains in the intruders pants..."
Do not employ that method.
Loading a shotgun within earshot of a potential target does the following:
It looks cool when done on the Hollywood big screen, yet is not ever utilized by professionals.
FYI
Believe me, a face full of birdshot at close range will leave any invader out of action -- as far as remaining a deadly threat.
Remember, if we are finally forced to that "gravest extreme" of using potentially-deadly force, our purpose must be to neutralize a deadly threat -- nothing more, nothing less. That, as a Christian, I could live with -- but I pray that I never have to use that training...
Only thing I might do different is buy a 22 inch barrel. Right now I've got a 30 inch ventilated rib with full choke. Can kill a goose at 50 yards easy.
if you are serious here and not joshin’ us.....that is not the point, not a good idea imo. the perp high on booze or drugs most likely, has already shown he is not scared of much if he is in the process of a home invasion. there is no guarantee this fool will even recognize the sounds of a pumper being charged, why count on that as some sort of defense? why give away your location noisily racking in a round? why risk some sort of possible mis-feed or jam while racking in that first round at the moment of truth, where the use of deadly force on your part might be imminent? I have taken quite a few firearms related courses/classes over the many years, (a few taught by men all heavy duty FReeper gun guys would recognize the names of instantly), and this age old wives tale/myth is debunked everytime it has come up either in student/teacher question and answer sessions or taught in a misc. items part of the class by the instructor. (it does not even come up in the advanced classes), I respectfully disagree with your premise here MrB.
Here is the “real deal” content regarding shotgun use.

Look at the history of Obama and Holder.
There is no qustion about it. Anyone why doubts they will be coming after your guns and ammo is an utter fool.
I really don't think I would ever seriously consider actually firing a 12 ga shotgun inside my house at a human being or anything else.
Just consider the mess, whether you hit your intended victim or not. If I did hit the target (and you probably wouldn't miss) I think I would probably have to move out of that home after viewing the blood and guts, the mangled body and then having to clean it up.
That's what they make 45s for.
That’s interesting. Thanks.
Even the 45 is going to leave a mess. Walls can be rebuilt, carpet can be replaced, and if your insurance is good, they hire a company for the clean-up.
And, yes, I am speaking from experience.
>>”...my wife and my 25 YO daughter are very uncomfortable about having a gun in the house.”<<
Tell them to move out...../s
My new Maverick 88 is the 18-1/2” version. They call it the “88 6-shot Security” model.
LOL.
I need them more than I need the shotgun. Most of the time, anyway.
A perp entering your home with intent to harm is a "victim"?
#7-1/2, huh? Thanks for the tip.
Your reasoning for loading two of the #7-1/2, rather than one or three?
