Gingrich: ‘If you seek to be a perfect minority, you’ll remain a minority’
NRO ^ | October 20, 2009 | Robert Costa

Posted on 10/20/2009 4:31:29 PM PDT by ejdrapes

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich tells NRO that he is sure that endorsing Republican Dede Scozzafava in the upcoming special election in New York’s 23rd congressional district was the right thing to do. “I endorsed the Republican who has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association, opposes the Obama health plan, signed the ‘no-tax-increase’ pledge, and supports a comprehensive energy plan like I do,” says Gingrich.

Third-party candidates like conservative Doug Hoffman, Scozzafava’s challenger, often serve only to divide the GOP, says Gingrich. “Just look at what’s happening in New Jersey’s gubernatorial race,” he says, pointing to the campaign of independent candidate Chris Daggett, who has siphoned support from Republican candidate Chris Christie. “What’s happening in New York and in New Jersey should be a sober warning to every purist in this country.”

“If you seek to be a perfect minority, you’ll remain a minority,” says Gingrich. “That’s not how Reagan built his revolution or how we won back the House in 1994.”

BTTT BINGO!

And They had best get it through their thick skulls. If we wanted democrats we would vote for them. We DON’T.

Most of us are Conservatives, not Republicans, and we vote on principle.

"Third-party candidates like conservative Doug Hoffman, Scozzafava’s challenger, often serve only to divide the GOP, says Gingrich."

Actually, nominating a leftwing Pelosi Democrat as the GOP candidate divided the GOP. And actually, as GOP voters learn about Scozzafava, the voters are uniting behind Hoffman.

Newt, no more RINOs. We've had it. We've had enough of the back-stabbing liberals masquerading as Republicans. Newt, you did nothing about this, when you were a Leader of the GOP and you did nothing. You're either a fraud, a cynic. In any case, you are not serious about the principles, you claim to support. We've had it. We can afford the nonsense and destruction conducted by the US Federal Government anymore. Basta!

From one point of view your post illustrates beautifully how exactly RINO's write off conservatives. You can't be perfect so compromise. To me being pro-2A is NOT NEGOTIABLE from a so-called conservative. It should follow that if you are a conservative you are pro-2A, the inverse should then logically hold true if you are not pro-2A you cannot be a conservative. QED.

Does anyone dispute the statement "If you are pro-2A you will get a NRA endorsement." If you call yourself a conservative and cannot get a NRA endorsement then something is seriously wrong with your program and it should be revisited. If two (or more) candidates have the same rating from the NRA I will support the more socially conservative. If one candidate gets an A and the other a C then I must support the A candidate regardless of his or her party affiliation. In fact, I would go so far as to posit that I am the better conservative because I WILL NOT COMPROMISE MY PRINCIPLES

So you're telling me that if the Republicans give me dismal candidates like Whitman, Poizner and Campbell, all of whom have repeatedly acted against second amendment issues that I should not vote for Jerry Brown who has done more for California gun owners than almost every other politician in the state (and does not trumpet it). He downsized and reformed the BOF, he filed a pro-RKBA amicus brief in McDonald vs. Chicago, stopped new proposed regulations and got rid of a couple fo the worst weasels in the BOF.

I would put it to you BillyBoy that by giving a Republican a pass on guns you're not supporting conservatism you are perpetuating RINOism.

Gingrich is absolutely correct. This is dealing with reality.

And if you spread a big tent, you will cease to be a conservative, and will only be an opportunist, Newt. But, hey, have fun with all your new liberal friends. You and McCain, and Snowe.

The dirty little secret in NJ is that the third candidate has formerly worked for CORZINE! He is fiscally conservative (supposedly) but is liberal in all other ways.

The third party in NJ is taking away the anti-Corzine votes from Christie and also some votes from Corzine....but Christie will be hurt more.

n00t got punked -- again. She later said that she wouldn't be held to that tax pledge. n00t spends too much time wading in that cesspool called D.C. I can't take the guy seriesly after that globull warming ad he did with that witch Pelousi.

Laura Ingraham, Hannity and Levin have endorsed the real conservative. If I had a vote, I'd take a real close look.

The NRA endorsed socialist traitor Jack Murtha simply because his record on guns was good (A+ rating from the NRA, but F ratings from every other conservative group on the planet). My guess is Murtha is your kinda candidate too.

I actually donated cash to LTC Russell. I did not know the NRA endorsed Murtha over him and if they did that they were wrong and have some explaining to do. You may also have made the wrong inference from my earlier statement which may be my fault due to the way it was written.

Anyone got the fact check on this?

I don't have a dog in this fight, and don't know much about NY politics, but I checked this... NRA Endorsement. Apparently, the NRA did endorse her based on her record in the NY legislature.

Being from Pennsylvania, I have seen many small town good guys change over night once they had to win big town votes. Politicians are politicians and once it becomes a profession and a source of lively hood, (and BTW, government becomes and industry, the biggest in the world), endorsements and promises don't mean diddly squat. They will switch on a dime if it means re-election.

Beyond that, Newt is all about pontification, he's great at it... and that's about it. All Hat, No Horse Newt. But we're in at freaking war here and we need someone good at fighting, not theorizing!

The NRA also endorsed that piece of crap, John Murtha.

So an NRA endorsement of a Democrat is equal to a warm cup of urine in my book.

Here it is...

http://www.murtha.org/endorse

National Rifle Association - “Based on your congressional record and responses to our 2008 federal candidate questionnaire, you have earned an “A” rating and endorsement from the NRA-PVF. We urge our members and other gun owners and sportsmen in the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania to vote for you on November 4th.”

These FReepers posts are spot on about the NRA “endorsing” left-wing scumbags. I could care less if the NRA supports some commie because they talk a good game about being pro-gun. Gun Owners of America know the truth, that these “pro-gun” Democrats and RINOs will side with Pelosi when the chips are down.

Unfortunately, Newt HAS a clue. So the question is, what is he not telling us about his real reason for endorsing this woman? Whenever we find something that makes absolutely no sense on the surface, the answer can usually be discerned by following the money. Is there blackmail involved? Some other “deal” or “grand strategy” behind the scenes? Someone needs to do some research here. There is more to this story than meets the eye.

It is utterly implausible that the GOP couldn’t find an “electable” candidate in NY 23 that mirrors its purported values.
