Gingrich: ‘If you seek to be a perfect minority, you’ll remain a minority’
NRO ^ | October 20, 2009 | Robert Costa

Posted on 10/20/2009 4:31:29 PM PDT by ejdrapes

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich tells NRO that he is sure that endorsing Republican Dede Scozzafava in the upcoming special election in New York’s 23rd congressional district was the right thing to do. “I endorsed the Republican who has been endorsed by the National Rifle Association, opposes the Obama health plan, signed the ‘no-tax-increase’ pledge, and supports a comprehensive energy plan like I do,” says Gingrich.

Third-party candidates like conservative Doug Hoffman, Scozzafava’s challenger, often serve only to divide the GOP, says Gingrich. “Just look at what’s happening in New Jersey’s gubernatorial race,” he says, pointing to the campaign of independent candidate Chris Daggett, who has siphoned support from Republican candidate Chris Christie. “What’s happening in New York and in New Jersey should be a sober warning to every purist in this country.”

“If you seek to be a perfect minority, you’ll remain a minority,” says Gingrich. “That’s not how Reagan built his revolution or how we won back the House in 1994.”

could choose our candidates for us is OVER!
PS: Susan Collins campaigning for the RINO in NYS is the kiss-of-death for most conservative voters.

The NRA endorsed Kirsten Gillibrand. How’d that work out for conservatism?

At this point..I would rather have an honest dedicated minority than a majority that doesn’t have any moral compass. We can win most issues with a solid minority and defectors trying to save their office by voting with us.
We need most of all to be able to stop legislation.

RINO’s and their liberal candidates are the ones dividing the Republican Party.

I can fully understand why you are angry of Gingrich. If we can look at what he said as a general or broad statement, it is true. There is NEVER going to be a political party or political candidate that is perfect from the perspective of every single voter. I know that if there was a candidate or party that was perfect from my perspective, he would never be elected POTUS. The perfect cannot be the enemy of the good if we ever hope to accomplish anything in life or politics. Since I am talking in generalities, each one of us has to decide for himself what issues are unacceptable and act accordingly. Nothing in this world will ever be perfect.

Scuzzy will vote with the liberal wing of the Democrats 99% of the time. How is that the ‘Good’? She has been endorsed by ACORN (anyone remember that group?) That should tell you everything you need to know about her.

I hate the Republican leaders. They are blatantly stupid.

Has Gillibrand bucked the NRA? If she or Scozzafava or anyone else does they will pay and they know it. They need to know it and folks like me ensures it happens. I'm in it for the guns not conservatism. In fact, I may register Democrat so I can vote for Jerry Brown here in California as he is the only remotely pro-2A candidate running for Governor. Meg Whitman should stay home and eat bonbons.

A lot of us worked hard for Newt. Campaigned, went on local radio shows to explain the 10 big ones. Talked at length to other people.
He stuck it up our backsides, and Now He's doing it again. Sucked up to Nancy, Hildabeast, I don't know maybe He got hit by lightning. But He is not the Newt from 91 Too much time trying to be relevant. Be focused on your goal, You'll be relevant
