AMHERST, Mass.—Amherst leaders are backing a resolution offering the Massachusetts college town as a possible resettlement home for two Guantanamo detainees if they are released from the military prison. The board voted 2-1 on Monday to endorse a warrant article filed on behalf of the two men by the group Pioneer Valley No More Guantanamos. The resolution would require approval from Town Meeting. It also calls on Congress to lift a ban on relocating former Guantanamo prisoners -- even those cleared of wrongdoing -- from resettling in the U.S.

Select Board chairwoman Stephanie O'Keeffe voted against the resolution, saying it was outside the expertise of Town Meeting.

I thought nothing was outside the expertise of the people of Massghanistan!

The comments on the Globe website are a real scream. “That will be two more Democrats in Massachusetts.”

Time for NH to seal the border, preferably with rifle fire.

If nothing else, we’d be rid of the leaf peepers plus we’d have realistic moving targets! After all, it’s not like massholes are sentient beings.

Amherst is as liberal a town as there is. Good place to put these terrorists so these people can finally see evil and hopefully wake up !@

..... Why am I so NOT surprised? Get ready to see Cambridge (Harvard University), Wellesley (Wellesley College, and Northampton (Smith College) rush in their own hosting applications.

I was thinking ZooMass, Amherst. Coupe DeValle would love to put them on the public trough.

Sometimes, I think we really do need to build a wall around this state to keep the Commies out. And then, we can deport the ones already here.

When UMass Amhearst starts having Jewish students go missing (or headless), do you think they’ll ever cast a wary eye to these poor oppressed GitMo releasees?

Might I suggest some other cities to relocate more of them: Washington, D.C., Berkeley, CA, and of course Chicago, IL.

When I saw the headline I was hoping it would be Chelsea or Lawrence (two *very* run down cities). But hey,I don't know if Amherst is rich or poor but,as a big college town,it's certainly Marxist.

But I think cities/towns like Brookline,Newton,Belmont,Concord, etc would be much more fitting.*Very* rich,*very* "progressive" and much closer to the "Athens of America".

Works for me, but shooting rifles is fun too, and, what the hell, they might as well perform some useful purpose.

Be careful what you wish for. I prefer to shoot mine at static targets (and occasionally, at deer) outside, but I’ve been conserving ammunition lately, and not just because it’s expensive.

Others, we suggest, should be freed and given homes in Hyanisport.
