This is the situation: I have seen “David” win over “Goliath” in just the sort of
“insurgent” conservative vs. established liberal race you are talking about..it is possible, but it means going outside the party structure. (also relies on a more grass-roots structure).

Even if we don’t win: The RINOS will know the game is up, and at least we tried, we may get them next time (or at least we’ll have scared the crap out of them so that maybe next time while in the leg, they will be less likey to vote RINO).

As for voting them in the general; it all depends on how RINO that they are, if they are bad on only one or two issues..Do you vote for them?

As for Dede..whew she is bad on almost every singe one of them!!

“Beat the RINOs in the primaries.”

I think that, as a general rule, we need to reform the GOP from within so that it becomes the conservative party that we all want it to be (and not by forming a third party that will split the vote and help the Democrats to win). However, there are four very good reasons why we should support Doug Hoffman in the special election for NY’s 23rd Congressional District while still support the general principle that we should stick with the GOP and make it better.

Number one, NY State has an active Conservative Party that for decades has helped to steer the GOP in the right direction (pun intended). Unlike in most states, a candidate can be the nominee of both the GOP and the Conservative Party and the sum of his votes under both ballot lines is credited to him or her. Thus, supporting the Conservative Party as an institutuion does not create a split that can throw elections to the Democrats—only when the GOP nominee is outrageously liberal does the Conservative Party endorse someone else.

Which brings me to the second reason why we should support Doug Hoffman: the nominee of the Republican Party, Dede Scozzafava, is an ultraliberal that supports same-sex marriage, abortion-on-demand, tax-raising cap-and-trade legislation, Obama’s “stimulus” package against which every single House Republican voted (even the most liberal of RINOs), and bank bailouts. Scozzafava is so liberal that her conservative rating last year in the NY Assembly was 15, she was cross-endorsed by the ACORN-fronted Working Families Party in her last election, and she was endorsed for November’s special election by the moonbats at Daily KOS. To call Scozzafava a RINO is to sully the reputation of RINOs everywhere.

All of which begs the question, how did Scozzafava get the GOP nomination in the first place? Easy: she didn’t have to face NY Republican primary voters, but instead was hand-picked by the party hacks in the counties comprising the 23rd Congressional District, which is the third reason why we should support Doug Hoffman. NY has a ridiculous procedure for party’s to nominate candidates for special elections to Congress that does not take into account the will of the voters and instead gives all the power to the county party organizations. Had Republican primary voters in the NY-23 had a choice, they would have nominated Doug Hoffman (whose candidacy was rejected by the party hacks in favor of Scozzafava) and we would be talking about how Doug Hoffman would surely win the special election.

And that’s the fourth reason to support Doug Hoffman: he can actually win. Scozzafava is so liberal that she takes many Democrat votes away from the liberal Democrat, and the winner of the special election could get as little as 35%. Polling right now shows Hoffman within 10% of both the RINO and the Democrat, and his support keeps growing. By electing Doug Hoffman, who will caucus with the Republicans when he’s sworn in to office and who would run for reelection as a Republican and Conservative in 2010, we will make it crystal clear for all the world to see that the Republican Party is conservative in its core and that we will not allow our party to be hijacked by liberals.

I would wholeheartedly recommend that all FReepers support Doug Hoffman in the special election. I have donated to Doug Hoffman’s campaign, and would urge those that can to do so as well. And if you want to help out in person, I’m sure that campaignPete R-CT or other FReepers can let you know what you can do to help.

I do agree with that. I am not suggesting an all or nothing strategy...and I should have made that clear. I'm not saying they have to be Rush Limbaugh (or me...as I am to the RIGHT of Rush). But...there are some core issues...both fiscally and socially I think they need to be in line with us on: Abortion; Gay marriage; Border security; Defense; Taxes; Energy policy...just to name a few.

I agree. ANY "republican" that supports Scozzafava because they believe having her is better than having a democrat has some seriously flawed thinking. In what world does that make sense? There's no difference. All it does is show the GOP establishment that they can get away with forcing bad choices down our throats. Then we'll come back here and complain about the RINO's. They'll put up more of them...fund them...we'll take our symbolic stand in the primaries...lose....and support them in the end. Yeah...that makes a LOT of sense.

ANY "republican" that would vote for her is a fool. You gain NOTHING from it. NOTHING.

And the difference between Scozzafava and the democrat candidate is?????????????????????????????????????????

With a democrat win or with a republican win in this case the White House gets the exact same thing in the House, a reliable democrat vote when needed.

I had three envelopes of GOP requests for money and a phone request, and I told them to go to you know where and exactly why. I hope we all do that and the flaming mail catches their mailbox on fire.

Can they hear us now? They can if we verbally explode on them. RINOs are as timid as Democrats. The time for civility is past. This is a revolution.

Yeah, especially since Hoffman has a better chance of winning than Scozzafava. Moderates that want to stop the Democrat from winning should vote for Doug Hoffman.

...and I did give to Hoffman as soon as I heard from Fred Thompson why it was the right thing to do.

I agree a third party would lead to disaster. Running liberal RINOs will also lead to disaster. Conservative GOP=only chance for America.

In this race it’s important to note there was no primary.

Post 43 covers it all. Hoffman is the choice here.

Hoffman can win just as Buckley did in the 1970 Senate race but not without all the help he can get from conservatives and Republican who should support him unequivocally. Should the democrat win we get a do over (with a primary!) in NOV 2010. If Dede wins the stupid NRCC will support her in the 2010 primary and she could be there forever.

Conservative Republicans should publicly call for Working Families “Republican” Dede Scuzzobama to drop out for the good of the party she claims to be a member of.

Conservatives need to draw the line and fight this battle in New York. Even if it means letting the Democrat win the election. We have another shot at the seat in 2010 but we have only one chance to bring down the RINO RNC joke of an establishment. We need to fight this battle. Elect the conservative or show the RNC that we WILL NOT support Liberal Lite©

I rest my case about supporting RINO's in the general election...especially this one. So who is truly the VILE dog?
