The New York Times Plans 8 Pct Newsroom Staff Cuts
Oct. 19, 2009
NEW YORK -- The New York Times will cut the size of its news staff by 8 percent by the end of the year.
It will offer voluntary buyouts at first but resort to layoffs if it cannot meet the target of 100 positions, according to a memo Executive Editor Bill Keller sent to staff on Monday.
The Times, flagship of The New York Times Co., trimmed 100 jobs last year and has cut another 100 from the newspaper's business operations. But it still maintains one of the largest news operations in the country.
Both union and nonunion workers took a 5 percent pay cut earlier this year as the newspaper tried to avoid cutting more jobs.
"I won't pretend that these staff cuts will not add to the burdens of journalists whose responsibilities have grown faster than their compensation," Keller wrote.

woohoo!
some good news today
Say goodnight, Pinch.
How's that leftist agenda working out for ya there?
They just make up the news, so why do they need actual employees.
Even the mail room sorter could write better fiction.
Double our efforts and next quarter it can be 16pct.
May I suggest who they should cut? Pleeeeeaaaasssse!
Really good news to kick off a Monday ... But they could save much more by just having a few people reprints various liberal press releases and hoaxes.
LOL journalists? Is that what they call people who make things up?
Hey when you have the West Wing writing your stories for you, why maintain a staff?
They’re seeing some “RED” not READ, these days.
I know, it’s not that funny. ;>))
But, but, Obama was going to solve the economy issues. How’s all that hopey changey stuff going for you socialist journalists, anyway...?

mmmm, mmmm, mmmmnph
No cuts to the vast overabundance of administrative and left wing propaganda staff though?
Just going to fire the three people there who actually (occasionally) report on actual news?
Hmm, Maybe they ought to try actually reporting the truth for a change. That way, they could actually make enough money to pay their people.
It would be very interesting to see what happens to the cut journalists. Its not like their are any jobs anywhere in journalism. Being a NYT's reporter isn't something that the private sector would touch. So, they'll look for jobs in Government. Like working as DMV clerks.
Maybe Fox News could pick up some of their reporters with the new ratings they are sure to achieve. LOL
If following suit of other papers, they will cut
production line employees, cut travel expenses, cut feature writers (sunday magazine) cut and combine reporter beats ... BUT NOT THE “holy” EDITORIAL STAFF (the ones that are sinking their boat).
Perhaps they should apply at FNC.
Fox seems to be doing well. Growing in fact.
Gosh, only an 8% cut for lying? Last time I lied I was audited and lost all my credibility!!!
