Karl Rove, former top adviser to President George W. Bush, bluntly accused President Barack Obama of deliberately "destabilizing" the government of Afghanistan, in an interview this morning on the Fox News Channel.
Rove said Obama sent Democratic party henchman James Carville to help the campaign of one of President Hamid Karzai's opponents for the August presidential election.
An article by NPR last summer says Carville's strategy was to drag the election in to a runoff to aid his candidate, former World Bank official Ashraf Ghani.
Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel made remarks this weekend that questioned whether the Obama administration would send more troops to Afghanistan if the Karzai government remained in power, reported here by Politico:
"Do you have a credible Afghan partner for this process that can provide the security and the type of services that the Afghan people need?" Emanuel said the Obama White House is asking as it conducts a strategy review before answering Gen. Stanley McChrystal's request for more troops.
Transcript (by yours truly) of Rove's comments:
Take a look at what this administration has done. They have destabilized the Afghan government by saying you know what we're not certain that Karzai is a good partner for us.
And the Obama administration sent in James Carville, Democrat party operative, in order to handle the campaign of Karzai's opponent. And then they express surprise when Karzai is trying to cut side deals with the remaining warlords and regional powers in Afghanistan in order to make certain he has a power base if the Americans pull the rug out from underneath him.
I mean its really unusual that this administration is so quick to criticize the Bush administration when they are really destabilizing the regime in Afghanistan in a fundamental way.
I wonder why Carville moved his family back to Louisiana.
Are he and the other henchmen planning a Reichstag moment in D.C.?
Will you two please get a room?
“I wonder why Carville moved his family back to Louisiana.”
Because he knows the good ole boys there will protect his honkey white a$$ which looks obscenely like the top of his futt bugly head!
Or maybe it’s something honest...like rigging the next election.
OR, he feels more at home with genetically related swamp mutants.
OR, all of the above.
Karzai probably wanted a bigger pop of the poppy profits.
bam’s bossman said, uh uh.
Here ya go.
(You don't need to bother answering that. You obviously did. Your post to me makes absolutely NO sense otherwise).
Have a lovely evening. :)
MestaMachine: Thank you for finding this document. I think that it will provide some factual basis for understanding the ROE.
NoObamaFightForConservatives: This document has some guidlines for tactical operations. Please note that these guidelines bear NO resemblance to the “ROE” document you provided.

Of course they don’t.They are not suppose to.
Whoa! Don’t get me wrong. I am 2000% against McChrystal and everything he has done since he took over in Afghanistan.
The image you refer to accurately reflects McChrystal’s orders to the troops under his command. Read some of the Afghanistan threads. Read my profile page. The ROE are posted there.
This is part of an article reposted many times here:
In preparing his assessment of the Afghan command, McChrystal found an American military culture that showed a great concern for troops protection sometimes at the expense of their relations with Afghan civilians.
To change those relations, McChrystal wants American forces to think twice about basic conduct for instance no longer pointing their guns at people when they pass in convoy or blocking narrow roads with their convoys, while relegating Afghans to the ditches.
To deal with the most contentious aspect of those shaky relations, McChrystal has already committed to try to reduce civilian casualties by issuing new orders that restrict when troops should call in bombing strikes.

Just imagine our Military showing great concern for our troops protection. How dare they

You will not find 100% proof of ROE’s unless you are there and ordered or believe the word of military families as I do as they are my family.
It may be scuttlebutt in rumor but I seriously doubt it... over something as serious as this. I do know that I do not trust our media to report facts and blogs are the sad real news.
Google research it.The ROE pic I posted falls in line with all that I have read.Good luck to you.

I understood you.Sorry about the last double post weird glitch.Doorgunner wants proof of the ROE.
McChrystal is a political arm of Obama. Too many politics in this war. History repeats but this go round is most atrocious IMO.
My post was actually for DoorGunner, but it was the image you put up. That is the only reason I pinged you.
I know you have seen many of my posts before and know exactly how I feel about bam AND McChrystal.
Neither one of them is worth ONE Marine’s life.
I read all of the names of those that have died in your profile.
It wrenches my gut and puts a frog in my throat.
I saw a 19 year old that was killed. Dear God.
For God Sakes he could not even legally sit down and drink a beer in the country he died for.
McChrystal is either a dupe, a traitor, or an idiot.
God help our troops with a commander like this and ROE like he has issued!

I realize, by now that you will probably never understand, but I write this in case someone else might read the “Yellow ROE” that you posted, and imagine that it is the ACTUAL ROE.
1. It COULD be a portion of a REAL ROE. Even if this is the case, it is only a small portion, intentionally chosen to mislead the reader. An honest writer would post the ROE in its entirety.
2. It could be rules written by a subordinate commander. The discussion above would also apply.
3. It could have been written by an actual field soldier, reflecting his own emotions regarding the ACTUAL ROE.
4. It could have been written by someone in CONUS who knows nothing but what he reads online.
The only way for someone to know what the REAL ROE are, and to develop a considered opinion about them, is to be able to see the actual, official rules. Not a small portion, out of context, and not just words on a screen, lacking any provenance. I have never been to “’Stan,” but i have been to “’Nam;” and the two are becoming remarkably similar.
One of the things which went wrong there was that some GIs treated the Vietnamese badly. Sometimes, more or less in the line of duty, but mostly just personal meanness, and bullying people who couldn’t respond. It appears, I say again APPEARS, to have started happening in Afghanistan; and that McChrystal’s Guidance was aimed at that.
A much bigger problem, regarding Nam, was that as the war ground on various people used half-truths, exaggerations, and outright lies in order to put forward their own agenda. Usually, that agenda was “Bring the Troops Home,” but it meant “Cut-n-run.” “Bring the troops home,” but it meant “Lose (you bastards).” “Bring the troops home.” but it meant “they are just little brown people, Asians, they don’t have a background of democracy, they don’t DESERVE freedom...”
I have no idea what your position is, on this, so this isn’t necessarily pointed at you, personally. But, if we “Bring the troops home,” it will follow, as night follows day, that the Taliban will immediately return to power. And, being the medieval brutes that they are, they will go on a killing spree: little girls who’s crime was attending school; men who joined the police/army; men who trimmed their beard; anyone who worked for the government; anyone wearing glasses (no, THAT was in Cambodia). And, sooner or later, word will leak out; and those “Troops” we Brought Home will know, and they will feel guilt (not necessarily valid) that they didn’t protect the Afghanis; and they will be told: “but, we did it to protect YOU...” Then. the people who engineered the retreat will put THEIR guilt onto the troops, by saying that it was the evil, vicious troops, which MADE the Taliban commit mass murder.
Then, then we will have a complete parallel with Vietnam. If we expect to avoid THAT, we must begin to insist on TRUTH; not partial truths, not misleading “truth,” not exaggeration, and definitely not LIES. And I bekieve that it will have to start here, on FR.
