Sheriff: Media Outlet May Be In On Balloon Hoax

FORT COLLINS, Colorado — The story that a little boy had floated away in a giant helium balloon was a hoax concocted to land a reality television show, authorities said, and the boy's parents will likely face felony charges.

The stunt two weeks in the planning was a marketing ploy by Richard and Mayumi Heene, who met in acting school in Hollywood and have appeared on the ABC reality show "Wife Swap," Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said Sunday. The Heenes have reportedly been working on a reality TV deal in Los Angeles.

Investigators are examining the possibility of other conspirators, "including the possibility that even some of the media outlets may have had some knowledge about this," Alderden said.

More Calif libs infesting Colorado. All they care about is getting some acting or TV deal.

WOW! If ABC was in on this then the plot really thickens. They were able to trump all the other news that was going on in the country and even the world with this stunt for intensely a couple of hours. Talk about create a crisis. This is what happens when the news goes left and corrupt. FOX is the only place where you can get the truth.

Sad thing is....this family seems so desperate for attention they don’t care what kind of attention it is, good or bad...AND, they put their children through it with them.

Sadder yet, even the negative attention will probably eventually [considering any jail time] work to their advantage.

I like Colorado, but the cost of living is ridiculous, even in the suburbs.

I am currently in Texas and am glad I am not there with the economic situation.

All those Californians make me less willing to move there as well. We have some of that here in West Texas, but the conservatives still ridiculously outnumber them.

This is truly an amazing story.

Some Freepers just nailed this perfectly as it was happening...almost to the T.

This worked so well, I'm expecting MSNBC to claim that Chris Matthews also accidently launched himself in a mylar balloon just before tonight's broadcast.

He'll hide under the desk pretending to conduct interviews while hurtling across the sky 8,000 feet high.

ABC had the fake Ford truck explosion.

CBS had Dan Rather’s fake but accurate Bush report.

It’s a toss up on this balloon stunt.

It is rumored Barack Obama wants to purchase balloon boy’s balloon, and why not - they’re both fake and full of hot air.

I'm thinking we ought to bring this back ... Dad and Mom would probably benefit from a little public humiliation at this point in their brain dead, self absorbed lives.

Not to mention some small farmer who had his wheat crop destroyed by emergency vehicles coming to the rescue when the balloon landed in his field. Maybe he'll get his money back after a long lawsuit, but what does he do in the meantime?

...the boy's parents will likely face felony charges.

And should have their kids taken if convicted.

My guess is that they should take the kids now. That little boy throwing up is a sign that he is terrified of his parents or at least his Dad.

KUSA (NBC) was called by the dad. PMSNBC was the first to air the balloon. I think we have a winner.

That's exactly what the Denver Post reported yesterday -- they are likely to lose their kids.
