Independent expenditures continue to flood into the three-way special election to replace former Rep. John M. McHugh in New York's 23rd District, according to new filings with the Federal Election Commission.
On Oct. 16, the National Republican Congressional Committee dropped $102,000 for attack ads against the Democratic nominee, attorney Bill Owens, and paid another $21,000 for a survey by Public Opinion Strategies, a leading GOP polling firm.
Meanwhile, the Service Employees International Union dropped $100,000 into the upstate New York district Oct. 15 for two radio ads on Owens' behalf.
Owens is battling Republican state Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava and Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party nominee, in the Nov. 3 contest to succeed McHugh, a Republican, who became secretary of the Army. It is a race that is defying conventional wisdom in many ways, and an independent poll released Oct. 15 confirmed just how tight the election has become. Owens had 33 percent, Scozzafava had 29 percent, and Hoffman had 23 percent.
The anti-tax group Club for Growth, which has already spent $250,000 on Hoffman's behalf, spent another $9,600 in the district Oct. 15, including $8,100 for a poll by Basswood Research.
Another conservative group, the Susan B. Anthony Fund, dropped about $10,000 into the district Oct. 16 to pay campaign workers on Hoffman's behalf...

FReepmail me if you want on or off my New York ping list.
I sent Hoffman a donation.
I hope Doug Hoffman can pull this one through.
Club for Growth has contributed to Hoffman, while the RNC is cascading Dede with a 100K. The other candidate is getting money from unions.
Ergo, Hoffman would get my vote if I lived in that district.
Can the Rinos buy stupid? I don’t think you can.
I also support the Susan B. Anthony fund. They are pro-life, and clearly are weighing in here because the damned RINO leadership is supporting a pro-abort. Hoffman is a genuine conservative.
We need to Freep Hoffman with donations. I sent my money in yesterday. We cannot let the RNC choose liberal candidates. They need to be taught a lesson.
My God, why doesn’t the rinos get a clue? We could have this race if they would just bug out. I posted a couple articles in my blog http://AlbanysInsanity.com hope it will bring some help to Hoffman.
We must support Hoffman. Scozzafava is so far left, she makes Democrats look onservative.
I sent Hoffman a donation.
I’m doing the same in the morning.
This NYS GOP has become unbearable. Insufferable. A broken down piece of junk.
Thanks for the ping!

I’m staying active for Hoffman. Fascinating race to be involved with. Money is pouring in and it is exploding on the ground, the activity that is. 16 days out.
I hope the folks running this thing don’t like sleep.
There is a real world of politics out there beyond the freeper borders.
Notice that the SEIU, which has been a long-time supporter of Scozzafava, are now supporting Owens. I bet that the pro-abortion groups are going to support Owens too. This is a textbook example of why RINOs absolutely stink. The leftists that fawn over them will always support the Rat in the end, and the conservatives won’t support them either. Scozzafava is going to come in dead last in the race because she has no base of support.
i think some of the gay radicals are going to stick with her. Not actually campaign for her, just advocate for her. Some of them. And her relatives are her base.
