Constitutional crisis threatens to cause the collapse of the political system, the country's leaders have warned.
The concerns have been triggered by Bosnian Serb leaders who have stepped up their demands for independence with a warning the country is no longer "sustainable".
The growing ethnic divisions have raised fears of a return to the fighting which claimed the lives of up to 110,000 people between 1992 and 1995.
Senior European and US officials have called an emergency meeting in Sarajevo on Tuesday to meet the country's leaders to find a solution.
The crisis centres on attempts to overhaul the constitution which was imposed on the country in 1995 in the wake of the war.
Since then Bosnia has been made up of two semi-independent entities – the Serbs' Republika Srpska and the Muslim-Croat Federation.
The two are linked with weak central institutions whose functioning is often obstructed by ethnic rivalries.
Serb groups claim attempts to streamline the complex government system are designed to undermine their position and absorb them into stronger central state.
Milorad Dodik, the Bosnian Serb prime minister, has described constitutional changes as "unnecessary and unacceptable".
"Bosnia is an unsustainable country ... the international community has overplayed its hand in Bosnia, and this will become evident in the end," he said.
Mr Dodik has called for referendum on self-determination to be included in the constitution that could pave the way for Republika Srpska's independence from Bosnia.
Sulejman Tihic, the leader of Bosnia's largest Bosnian Muslim party, said he fears that a new war could be looming.
"If it continues to go on like this, there is no question there will be conflict. It's just a question of what kind of conflict there will be, and is it going to be in three months, six months or one year?,"

Perhaps this time, Europe should relocate the Christians, then build a big wall around Muslim Bosnia, and put all the troublesome Muslims of Europe in there. It would be like Europe’s Gaza Strip. And anyone who wanted to go there to deplore their condition would be advised that once inside, they would stay inside as well.

I believe most of what you said is simply wrong. I am sure you could find examples of atrocities committed by Serbs but from what I can tell they were not as bad as the Muslims. It may have seemed worse because the Serbs were winning.
Take your Serb-hating lies and spew them elsewhere..... Serbia is comprised of 18 different ethnic minorities. If they were so hated why on earth would these people choose to live there?.....what are the statistics of Croatia...almost pure Croatian????

Now, let us look at the Serbian neighbors. Both Austrians and Italians DON’T get along with the Serbs.
I saw firsthand what was done to the Croats (in particular) and also the Slovenes.
The ethnic cleansing of the Croats was VICIOUS. Rape camps were run by the Serbs. I won’t go into any more details.. but suffice it to say.. the Serbs used to record on video their deeds. If ever you feel like puking, I can recommend a contact in the Hague, who will play back those confiscated videos for you. You will be sick all over.

Probably the worst mistake the West made was to oppose the Russian invasion of the Ottoman empire. We should let Russia take over Anatolia, given them Serbia and then built a massive wall between the Slavic kingdoms and the rest of Europe and been free of war in Europe forever.
The Slavs may be Christian but they don’t play too well with the other Europeans. I don’t mean the Orthodox faith as Greeks etc get along just fine with other Europeans. I mean the Slavs have a fault line with the Europeans.
I don’t pretend to understand why and as with any old fight, there has to be fault on BOTH sides. But the Slav/European conflicts over the last 300 years RUINED Christianity and the West
