Is there a shortage of seasonal flu vaccination? The Swine flu (H1N1) vaccine is slow getting to many parts of the US (the first doses of swine flu vaccine in the U.S. were given to health-care workers and children this week) and seasonal flu vaccine is also running short in some parts of the country.

Maybe I’m crazy, but how can this vaccine help when the flu is already here? It seems like I’ve always heard it takes 3 weeks or so to build up immunity.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not an H1N1 supporter....I don’t work in the medical field. All I am saying is they can’t even efficiently distribute a vaccine.

I have my doubts about this vaccine. The Flu Epidemic of 1918 killed millions, but the Influenza Virus burned itself out when enough people developed immunity. At least half a century elapsed before the next true epidemimc. Then, with the advent of flu vaccines, it SEEMS that there is a NEW mutation every year or so, each one worse than the last.
Is it presumptuous of me to extrapolate from these “coincidences” that maybe, just PERHAPS, our vaccines are encouraging the Influenza Virus to MUTATE to BIGGER and MORE RESISTANT strains EVERY TIME we come up with a vaccine?
