In July it was Romney 25, Palin 24, Huck 22.
Then again, Rudy Giuliani once pulled something like 45 percent before last years primaries. Perspective.
These numbers reflect an improvement for Huckabee since July when the three candidates were virtually even. Huckabees gain appears to be Palins loss as Romneys support has barely changed.
The numbers for Huckabee and Romney look even stronger when GOP voters were asked which candidate they would least like to see get the nomination. Pawlenty came on top in that category with 28%. Palin was second at 21% while 20% named Gingrich. Romney and Huckabee were in the single digits with 9% and 8% respectively
Romney leads all prospects among voters who attend church once a month or less. Huckabee leads among more frequent churchgoers. Huckabee holds a huge lead among Evangelical Christians with Palin in second and Romney a distant third.
The person Republicans would least like to see win the nomination is Tim Pawlenty? I thought the rap on T-Paw, at least for the moment, is that he didnt inspire strong feelings one way or another. As for Sarahcuda, on the same day that he took the July poll, Rasmussen ran another one asking if her decision to resign would help or hurt her presidential ambitions. The split was 24/40 and yet she was still ahead of Huckabee at the time. If its not her resignation thats hurting her now, as I speculated this morning, what is? Too much Levi Johnston freak show collateral damage, maybe? I dont think most people even know who he is.
Not to worry, says Matt Latimer. Authenticity shall triumph in the end:
Palin isnt going away (at least not yet) because in her own way she represents what Barack Obama represented for many Democrats: someone who stands apart from the corrupt and cynical Washington system that has let true believers down. Republicans remember that Palin stood up against the crooked Republican establishment in Alaskawhile out-of touch GOP senators in Washington actually applauded Alaskas crony-in-chief, Ted Bridge to Nowhere Stevens, after he was booted out of office amid scandal. (The charges against Stevens were eventually dropped.)
The rank-and-file are tired of the bland phonies running the GOP. They are tired of Republican compromises that bloated spending and expanded the federal government. And they feel helpless against a team of buddies running each campaign more cynically than the last. GOP voters just might be ready to burn their village down in order to save it. You can almost hear the line now. Whats the difference between a hockey mom and Robespierre? Lipstick.
If the grand pooh-bahs of the GOP think they can find someone to push her aside, their pickings seem drearily slim. Version 2.0 of the governor affectionately known in some circles as Mitt Rom-bot is currently under construction. It will probably function just as lamely as the last. Poor Governor Romney. Every move the Mittster makes looks like it has first been diagrammed in a PowerPoint presentation. When commentators noted that even his hair looked too perfect, his aides mussed it up. It ended up looking perfectly disheveled. Weve had enough inauthenticity for a while.
Weve had enough ideological inauthenticity, but using the degree of dishevelment of Mitt Romneys hair to measure that isnt really a game I want to play. Palin and Huckabee might be the most personally authentic, salt-of-the-earth candidates of the bunch, but does that necessarily mean theyre less likely to get rolled by Democrats if elected? Because thats all I care about. If Mitt can get jobs growing again between trips to the country club, good enough. Personal authenticity can be useful as a proxy for ideological authenticity, but ultimately its only the latter thats important. Sometimes it feels like thats a minority position these days.
I agree!
The front runner, now, will NOT be the nominee.
It never works that way.
Huck is simply wrong on several issues.
He does not understand economics very well.
He is far too much of a trade protectionist.
He is acceptable, if nominated, but not my first choice by a long shot.
Jefferson and Madison were men of reason and enlightenment, not Scripture. Ben Franklin was ambivalent at best, antagonistic and irreverent. George Washington couldn't care less if those who fought alongside him were Jews, Catholics or Mohammattans.
No republic is fit for evil men.
Well, neither of us has data, so it’s hard to say. But I find it pretty impossible that Palin, who was on the GOP national ticket, spoke at the RNC convention as VP candidate, was the subject of a Dave Letterman scandal, is coming out with a bestselling book, and is the obsession of liberals everywhere, somehow has lower name recognition than Mike Huckabee, who, IIRC, didn’t make it past SC primary, and has a low rated show on cable news and was an unknown governor from Arkansas.
Do those “people” you talk to, realize that Goldman-Sachs is, pretty much, the “bench” for future Democrat candidates, and a piggy bank for Democrat candidates?
Do those people understand that Obama received more money, in the last 10 years, from mortgage, Wall Street, Banking and hedge-fund interests than ANY other politician? And this, despite the fact that Obama has only been on the national stage for a very short period of time?
Your friends are idiots.
Uninformed idiots.
You need to inform them.
WHAT?!?!
Are even conservatives gone CRAZY?!?!?!
Reverse the order and I’ll believe this isn’t a joke.
Sorry Huckster. You're so 2008
These internet polls are Huck’s main problem. His support is not high tech and Sarah’s is.
No no no! No Hucklebee! He would not be much better than obama. We need a real conservative!
He may be a Christian, but he is not a conservative. With conservative values comes Christian values. Christian values do not bring conservative values: Example- Jimmy Carter
I suggest, “Christianity and the Constitution” by Eidsmoe, as a good read.
http://www.amazon.com/Christianity-Constitution-Faith-Founding-Fathers/dp/0801052319
“Our Constitution was written for a moral and religious people, it is wholly inadequate for the governance of any other” Adams.
The ONLY benefit of obama is that he is screwing up so badly and inspiring a conservative movement. If Huckleberry or McShamnesty had been elected, this grass-roots conservative uprising would not be happening. They would be voted out in 2012 and conservatism would be in a downward spiral. Citizens are realizing what liberalism/socialism is, thanks to obama. I just pray that he doesn’t do too much damage before 2012.
You know what the sad thing is? They don’t care as long as they are being taken care of.....
I did not vote for O nor do I intend to the next go around.
Healthcare—people are loving the fact that the democrats are doing what they are doing.
I tell them: It is better if they leave things alone, and let the states run their own healthcare for people who cannot afford it.
Interesting that Palin son Track came home from Iraq that day. Would think “value voters” would value a politician who lives their values over one who is a shameless pander. But apparently catering to the "Values voters" egos is more important then living their values.

With off-year polls, name recognition is king. Huck has a weekly TV show on FNC, a network popular with the GOP base. He also has a radio show that replaced Paul Harvey on the local conservative talk station.
I haven't seen much of Romney or Palin lately. If they want to stay in the game, they need to get out more and keep a higher public profile. Perhaps a book tour for Sarah will get her going again.
Then why in every poll does 55-57% say they oppose it?
What we are seeing is the winner of a popularity contest. He's not Presidential material..don't worry.
