I’ll be pissed off if the day ever comes a democrat wins the EC and loses the popular vote.

2004 ended up a bit closer than I thought it would be. But except I think for a meaningless post convention bump for Kerry it was never worse than a tie.

Interesting, I never heard of that. JFK was a douche. James Polk would have been disappointed in him. Seems like a meaningless little piece of land but still, it’s the principle of the thing.

Apparently the net transfer of land from the US to Mexico was only a bit over 150 acres--see "Chamizal dispute" (Wikipedia) for more details. The river had shifted and there were conflicting legal opinions over whether the new course of the river should be the border or not. According to the Wikipedia article, one of JFK's motives was to strengthen support for his "Alliance for Progress."

I just remember my mother being upset over the transfer of land--but she hadn't voted for Kennedy to begin with.
