A child's upbringing is the exclusive responsibility of the parents. Certainly they can't be with the kids 24 hours a day, and arguably, *professional teachers* are more capable at teaching certain skills or areas. It used to be done under a concept of en loco parentis. This worked when the schools understood they were mere place holders for the parents, and parents held them accountable for the manner in which they discharged their duties in that capacity.
