That's why God created NASCAR.
Don't be too sure about that.
The France family has moved substantively to "dump the one what brung them" and "de-redneck-ize" NASCAR. It's been years since I've seen an image including a Confederate flag broadcast from a NASCAR race -- they're there, somewhere, but the broadcasters carefully screen them out.
Likewise, NASCAR is pushing hard to reduce its Junior Johnson / King Richard factor by bringing in brie-eating drivers and moving events to targeted media markets. They especially want the black demographic -- hence the "de-redneckification" purge.
If it were up to NASCAR, all their drivers and crew chiefs would sound like they were MBA's from Connecticut.
MLB has dilly-dallied around with this concept, trying to urbanize their in-game promos, merchadising and so forth, all with the intent of "bringing home" the black fan.
That's whats behind the Mandela-ization of Jackie Robinson. It's really quite pathetic what aging white liberals in the game are capable of with too much time and money on their hands.
Perhaps, but until they replace Daryl Waltrip in the announcer's booth with Keith Olberman, I'm watchng NASCAR!!
