Leveling Limbaugh (WSJ Editorial Warns of Conservative Uprising)
The Wall Street Journal ^ | Friday, October 16, 2009 | Editorial Staff

The National Football League, in which each Sunday men weighing 365 pounds slam headlong into men weighing 245 pounds, has decided it can't handle Rush Limbaugh, talk-show host, age 58. C'mon guys, show some guts.

What began as a normal business deal—Mr. Limbaugh's participation in a group bidding to buy the St. Louis Rams NFL franchise—has degenerated into an unfortunate flap whose repercussions could extend well past Sunday afternoon football.

SNIP

What happened here, and is happening elsewhere in American life, is that Mr. Limbaugh's outspoken political conservatism is being deemed sufficient reason to ostracize him from polite society. By contrast, MSNBC's Keith Olbermann, who fires off his own brand of high-velocity, left-wing political commentary but lacks Mr. Limbaugh's sense of humor, appears weekly as co-host of NBC's "Football Night in America." We haven't heard anyone on the right say Mr. Olbermann's nightly ad-hominem rants should disqualify him from hanging around the NFL. Al Franken made it all the way to the U.S. Senate on a river of political vitriol.

But Rush Limbaugh gets hung out to dry by someone of Roger Goodell's establishment prominence, and barely a soul from that same fastidious establishment has the courage to step forward to criticize it.

It is no secret that this country's politics has become intense across the ideological spectrum. Rush Limbaugh lets his listeners blow off steam and then get on with the rest of their day. But if the people who claim to worry about such things want to see a truly angry right develop in this country, they should continue to remain silent while the left tries to drive Rush Limbaugh and others out of American political life. If that happens, the NFL by comparison will look like an afternoon tea.

The left has pounced on Rush Limbaugh here precisely because he wears his heart on his sleeve about the NFL and sports in general. He is nostalgic about his days with the Kansas City Royals when he was able to hang out with George Brett.

So when his dream of participation in the NFL nearly became a reality, his enemies stepped forward to crush his dream.

I’ll wager that if Rush would join in, we could have a million people or more protesting at the Super Bowl.

I’m angry enough to drive there just to join in.

I will continue to hit them with pocket protests. But this is now beyond what a pocket protest can cure.

All of Baltimore was heartbroken.

If memory serves, the Colts snuck out of town in the dark of night.

Libs are the first to scream “McCarthyism!” at the drop of a hat, but here we have a case of a man who has been blacklisted from an industry because of his politics. IF this isnt what McCarthyism is supposed to mean, I don’t know what is. And make no mistake, this is nothing like the Dixie Chicks, who can still make crappy records even though their fans wont buy them anymore, Rush is actually banned from owning a piece of an NFL franchise).

No need to "develope", a whole bunch of us are already here

"making an emotional investment in the outcome of an event over which you have no control."

I agree with you 100%

Dopes beating up on other dopes

The educational system would indeed be vastly improved if football were relegated to extinction in toto. When pigs have wings, of course.

Does not matter the color of the players. What matters is who watchs the games and buys tickets.

Saying this from the sideline as I gave up on the NFL some years ago.

Used to be a big Cowboys fan. Then there was all that Michael Irwin coke stuff among other things. Now go fishing on my own. Might catch the Superbowl but thats about it.

After the Rush deal might try to avoid some sponsors however. And I am not even a “major league” “ditto head”.

Whoa folks, Whoa.

Liberals don't love football - Soccer anyone?

Liberals don't love Rush - 60 Minutes anyone?

Liberals don't love Minority's - Well, um, but how could they resist the biggest mindless idiot of all times?

And Liberals don't love the buffoonist, beer guzzling animals that watch and support football!

Ain't this sweet? Liberals have all of the above at each others throats. Boycott football! Boycott the Rams! Boycott the channels that broadcast them!

Eh eh eh eh eh, and the jokes on us. This equation =’s Conservatives sacrificing their favorite pass time, and it's a win - win - win for the Libs!

Hey gang, we’re all on the same side, but let's not crawl into the mud with them. Stand up - Attention! Chins HIGH. Rush is a very big boy who can handle himself quite honorably, and there's an awful lotta schmartz in his noggin.

When he needs us, he will let us know. And I am very confident that he will enjoy the games this weekend, and so should we all.

Let's remain focused on the real enemy: The Media. They wrote the script for this “role play”. You
want to direct your anger, energy and not give them your $$$$, then boycott the sponsors of the media.

I’ve already refused Redskins tickets twice this season. I’m keeping my Riggins jersey, though. He was the man.

The race baiters did Rush a favor. Now he can turn, re-energized, to the great challenges before us.

Football is a sport fraught with racial issues and hypocrisy. Sad as it is for Rush to lose his youthful dream, he will be the better for this turn of events.

As a bonus, the dark side has again demonstrated to the public its pettiness in going to battle over something irrelevant to the well being of average citizen.

““Try being a Lions fan!”

“You lucky bastard!”
-a Raider fan

Amen to that, as long as that cadaver Al Davis is the head honcho. It seems to me that as his cojones shrink to raisins, his ego keeps getting larger.

Soo hot, so hot... to be a Dreadnaught...

LOL!

I think I am going to advise the LHS Dreadnaught boosters to become RUSH247 members,(if they are not already members) and indicate their willingness to publically court his interest in “our” team.

Our team may not be NFL, but then again, we wouldn't snub a potential major sponcer who obviously just loves the game, like all the rest of us.

Don’t you have to have a felony conviction to be a Raider fan?
