Was the balloon high enough to be on radar? Mylar is an excellent reflector so if they had an air traffic control set that used real radar not transponders they should have a track. Look for a rapid jump in altitude, that is where the kids weight dropped out. Do an expanding square search from that point and find the kid/body. If it went straight up and then came slowly down, the kid was probably never in it.
