Rescuers are tracking and chasing a "homemade flying saucer" that is in flight with a 6-year-old, by himself, on board.
The incident started this morning in Fort Collins when the boy got into the balloon-like device, which was built by an adult, and it came loose from a tether, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.
The contraption could rise as high as 10,000 feet, the sheriff's office said.
The home-made flying saucer was last seen in flight over Weld County.
The sheriff's office is working the Federal Aviation Administration to determine how to best get the boy down.

Reports that something/someone fell out of the balloon in Larimer (sp?) county. The local sheriff is head out there to see if the boy is there.
Been there done that.....what an amzing landing though. Our prayers were heard
My worst fears, which I hope are unconfirmed. . .
I think that if he died from the helium, they would wait to tell the family first, and not announce it over the TV.
I also think that if the balloon were empty, the ambulance would have left and gone on to other work by now.
MSNBC has better coverage- they are at the family’s home and neighborhood...speculation he fell out of balloon...
Well—that would be bad. But they would still be idiot dingbat parents for not watching their kids.
I fear DOA. :(
Maybe our prayers were answered.
Somehow, he always seems to be on the air when things like this happen.
Shep - idiot that he is - says LEO are headed for an area where someone reported seeing something fall out as the thing went over. But again...who knows? Could be some idiot who just wants their 15 minutes. I’m just sick and will be until they find the child.
Parents were with police the whole time.
Exactly
It’s Bush’s fault.
My fear too. <]:-(~
It was bobbing too easily in the video to be carrying a 60-70 pound weight. There’d have been some obvious inertia effects where the kid was situated in the plywood platform.
This was going on for a couple of hours..if some kid fell from the sky, I think someone would know..wouldnt ya think?
A good point, assuming that cameras were on it since take off.
Yes... and let’s hope that is the case.
Only thing that bothers me about that is that I would have expected the balloon to go much higher and stay up much longer.
And people are criminally responsible for actions that lead to a person’s death.
I hate to suggest this, but most people are probably at work.
If a kid fell out of the sky and landed in a yard, or even came through someone’s roof, its likely no one would notice until they came home.
I’m still hoping the kid’s hiding in a closet somewhere...
