Martin holds meetings over 'undocumented' [McCain, Graham for amnesty] [Irish, Mexicans lobbying]

Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin has held a series of meetings in Washington with leading Democrats and Republicans on the issue of US immigration reform.

Senior Republican Senator John McCain said he was still committed to a comprehensive deal.

He said he hoped Congress would address the issue early next year.

Senator McCain also said he was particularly anxious to resolve the difficulties facing up to 50,000 undocumented Irish in the US.

From The Irish Times:

Former presidential candidate Senator John McCain, a proponent of immigration reform, raised the issue of a temporary worker programme for Irish people.

"One of the aspects of the issue that's important is a legal temporary worker programme, and I think it is vital that we have that, where citizens of Ireland can come to the United States in a legal fashion, work and return to Ireland," he said.

"And reciprocally we could have a situation where an American citizen could be a legal temporary worker in Ireland. I think there's a certain area of reciprocity that we could look forward to," he said.

However, the most pressing issue was the fate of perhaps 15,000 undocumented Irish people, out of an estimated 12 million illegal aliens in the US. Mr Martin raised the issue with senators Lindsay Graham and Patrick Leahy and congresswoman Zoe Lofgren.

The Minister said: "There is a window of opportunity in the springtime. There is work going on behind the scenes . . . we understand, and we accept, that it has to be within the context of a comprehensive response to the issue . . . and we have been in touch with the Hispanic lobby and their representatives in the House and the Senate, and I think there is common ground moving forward on the issue.

“For us it is an important issue, given the fact that a number of Irish people have been undocumented for a very long time and it’s causing real trauma and hardship on families,” he said. It was now clear the Irish immigration issue “will be resolved within the context of comprehensive immigration reform”, along with immigration from Mexico, Mr Martin said.

Illegal Irish? Illegal Mexicans? McCain and Graham? It's as as if ol' Teddy were still alive...

How did 50,000 IRISH people accidentally show up in the US, such that McCain needs to “care?”

These freaking illegals need to be sent back home, minus the monies needed to transport them. If they don’t have the monies, let’s take a kidney and sell it on the open market as a transplant.

Just to prove we aren’t racists..let’s deport the Irish first. Since they have better jobs than the Mexican’s..let them pay their own airfare, after settling up with the IRS.

To McCAin: Shut up you delusional old SOB.

To my Irish cousins: Take your sorry butts HOME instead of living off what my Irish AMERICAN ancestors bled and sweated for in this country for 400 YEARS!

Probably visa overstays that DHS NEVER looks for! They could arrest them when they’re marching in our streets with Obama (yes, he did)

Many soldiers in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars were recently arrived Irish. Many of these, especially in the Revolutionary War, volunteered to fight, and die for this nation, though not yet 'citizens'.

Though I doubt this would matter to a person such as you.

That has exactly what to do with illegal alien Irish nationals?

Of course, this whole rule of law thing doesn’t matter to a person such as you....

I'm sick to death of our elected officials worrying about people other than those they are elected to represent.

McCain! You were not elected Senator of the world. Think about what is best for the American people. If there are 50,000 illegal Irish in this country, think of how many are holding jobs Americans should be working. Think of how many Teddys there be in that bunch.

No, never claimed to be a ‘lady’, unlike you I am not a hypocrite who claims the higher ground by quoting scripture like you do on your home page, yet you have NO problem with bearing false witness and slandering anyone who you think is in opposition to your narrow views. You never offer information, facts, just insults. You are the poster child for everything wrong with the GOP.

Now, about ‘immigrants’. I had an ancestor who served in WW1, but he was not allowed to be a ‘citizen’ or even to vote. He was a Cherokee Wind Talker. Mexican Americans have always had the right to vote in this nation. Blacks got citizenship and the vote in 1870. Women in 1920. The Indian not until 1925. My grgrgrgrandfather, a Scottish immigrant served in the revolution in the 3rd Virginia Regiment of the Continental Dragoons. My Irish ancestors came to this country before the revolution, were BORN here and fought that war to make this nation.

Don’t preach to me about the ‘poor immigrant’. You spew about things you know nothing of, which is why your opinion is so worthless. My ancestors EARNED the right, the 3rd world squatters you support have not!

Now, stop posting to me, as I have requested time after time, YOU are a waste of my time, and thanks to people like you, we are running out of TIME.

When I see ignorance I will correct it. And I have never quoted scripture. So besides being merely a xenophobe you’re a bumbling xenophobe.
