Rush Limbaugh will not be an NFL owner and it’s not because, to borrow the title of Al Franken’s book, “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot.”
OK. It’s a little bit of that.
If Limbaugh and all of his “ditto heads” out there want to blame the liberal, bed-wetting, panty-waste, fruitcake media with the left-wing agenda — and THAT’S why this country’s going to hell in a hand-basket, mister! — for him being rejected by the NFL, well, they’re missing the point.
The NFL has a product. The NFL has the most sought-after product in professional sports. The NFL is all about protecting its product. It’s about cultivating an image and protecting the league shield. Why? Because that leads to fans, which leads to ticket sales, which leads to sponsorships and wealth and, most of all, power.
It doesn’t really matter that all NFL owners and many players are rich and therefore, logic dictates, probably lean to the right politically themselves. This isn’t about politics. It never was about politics. When I slammed Limbaugh’s candidacy as a potential part-owner of the St. Louis Rams last Tuesday — and then a second time — it infuriated Limbaugh’s blind loyalists. Why? Because most of his fans apparently can’t see beyond their nearby radio speaker, out of which they can hear his turbo-lipped ramblings.
The NFL doesn’t want an owner who was investigated for illegally obtaining, and then becoming addicted to, prescription painkillers. And yes, there is a big difference between one of 32 owners — who is seeking approval from other owners — being a former drug abuser, and one of 2,000 players becoming a drug-abuser after he enters the league.
The NFL also doesn’t want someone who has proven to be divisive, both racially and otherwise. It doesn’t want someone who:
♦ Sang, “Barack, the Magic Negro,” on his show.
♦ Makes statements like, “The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback to do well,” which he claimed was why the media was going “soft” on Donovan McNabb (which must have seemed really funny to McNabb).
♦ Once said, “The NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips.”
♦ Similarly referenced the NBA, saying, “Call it the TBA, the Thug Basketball Association. … They’re going to watch the Crips and the Bloods.”
♦ Said of the “Survivor” TV series that the, “African-American tribe” had the worst swimmers, and Hispanics “will do things other people won’t do.”
♦ Said, “[In] Obama’s America, the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering.”
♦ Said, “Minorities never do anything for which they have to apologize.”
Should I go on, or is that enough?
Dave Checketts understood. He heads the group seeking to purchase the Rams, and he knew the other owners never would approve of the sale. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell didn’t want him in the league. The NFL Players Association didn’t want him in the league — and there’s a new Collective Bargaining Agreement to be negotiated.
Limbaugh is out. He knows why. He just can’t admit the truth.
His reaction: “This is not about the NFL, it’s not about the St. Louis Rams, it’s not about me. This is about the ongoing effort by the left in this country, wherever you find them, in the media, the Democrat Party, or wherever, to destroy conservatism, to prevent the mainstreaming of anyone who is prominent as a conservative. … Therefore, this is about the future of the United States of America and what kind of country we’re going to have.”
So the U.S. is going to hell because the NFL doesn’t want Rush Limbaugh as an owner?
Perfect. My kind of country. My kind of league.
The NFL is a racist enterprise...
Who cares what some commie rag thinks....
this required a barf alert....
Can’t fire ‘em. Never hired ‘em.
He is PO ed that someone who didn't go to college can make the BIG BUCKS and buy an NFL team
Ray Lewis - double murderer. Yes, NFL needs to protect its product.....
Isn’t this the paper Rush calles the ‘Urinal and Constipation’? Hahahahaha. Aww, they got their wittle feelings hurt and now it’s payback time.
Yes, Jeff, idiots do damage the NFL. You, for one.
“The NFL has a product . . .”
And I’m now a former consumer of that product
NFL Goodell and Owners . . . let liberals play and fund your league . . . let’s see how successful you are from here on out.
It's probably true. Look what they've done to newspapers.
All these people crying foul over Rush, it reminds of the following verse in the bible
Matthew 7:3-4 (New Living Translation)
3 And why worry about a speck in your friends eye[a] when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend,[b] Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye, when you cant see past the log in your own eye?
PAGING MICHAEL VICK!
PAGING MICHAEL VICK!
PAGING MICHAEL VICK!
PLEASE CALL NFL HEADQUARTERS ...
Jeff Schultz, you and Olbermann are just a bunch of Jock Sniffers, not qualified for the playing field and unable to work in any other endeavor that you couldn’t project your homoerotic obsessions of men grunting and rubbing on each other under stadium lights.
Other than that you should keep your minds occupied on your gifts of your accomplishments to date, stolen moments peaking into the locker room showers and hanging out in bus stations looking for runaways.
Umm, HELLO? Jim Irsay—who is critical of Rush—was reportedly addicted to prescription drugs. Drum him out! If that’s the standard, pressure should be brought to bear.
No. It's going to hell because under the PC dictatorship. Rush is NOT ALLOWED to be an owner only because the PC dictatorship says he is not qualified. So much for diversity.
Hell. The Washington Redskins had an owner for decades who was an avowed racist. He was never stripped of his ownership.
If anyone can demonstrate that Rush is a racist, they sure have not brought forth any evidence.
The entire thing is about over the top partisan political correctness, and the main stream media's participation in that abuse of power. This article is simply another example of that pernicious link.
I must admit I am angry and offended by this all. But Vick is not part of this, he’s done his time and should play if he is good enough. We have bigger and better fish to fry.
Jeff Schultz
