Hate to say it, but she doesn’t look much like the “age progression” photo they had of her. Does that ever do much good in locating a child years later?

It worked for capturing John List 20 years after he murdered his family.

But he was already an adult and I think luck had a lot to do with coming up with a matching bust of him. Sure did make America's Most Wanted famous.

Some people looks stay the same from childhood on, but some don't. At 50, I still look like my grade school pictures, my husband, on the other hand, looks like aliens kidnapped him & replaced him with someone who bears no resemblance to him as a child. :-)

I happen to be a Forensic Artist at my department. What you have to remember is that Age Progression is mostly art with some reasonable inferences from science. That is, there is a lot of room for “artist interpretation”. I have seen age progressions come out remarkably close. I haven’t looked at the Dugard one so I won’t comment on that. Age Progression done well is a craft that takes a lot of patience, skill and luck...

held against her will for 18 years, much of it in a backyard hell straight out of a horror film,

Kidnap victim Jaycee Dugard worked regularly in her accused abductor's print shop, forging a reputation as a model employee who was known to customers as "Allissa," reports CNN. Polite and professional, Jaycee greeted store visitors, created graphic designs, and emailed customers using a Yahoo account created under Phillip Garrido's name. "She was always good at getting us what we wanted," said former customer Ben Daughdrill. "You got the feeling she was doing all the work."(Newser, Aug 31, 09

And anyone remember Elizabeth not-so-Smart?
"Why didn't she run away? Why didn't she readily admit she was Elizabeth Smart when police found her with the couple who had allegedly held her captive for nine months? How could she walk by all those posters with her picture on them and not say anything?

These are the questions swirling since 15-year-old Elizabeth Smart was reunited with her parents in Salt Lake City and as evidence emerges that she stayed close to her captors even when they went to public places. Yet as perplexing as those questions seem, psychologists and other specialists are not surprised she didn't bolt. (Boston Globe, March 15, 2003)

And the lay psychologist/specialist/Guns-and-Roses Guitarist who called himself Slash isn't surprised by these gals' behavior, either. He supposedly once said, "Not to be a chauvinist or anything, but it's amazing the sh;t some girls will take."

Cases such as this are both frightening and bizarre. How many situations like this have gone unresolved over the years......many, I am sure. We should all be more vigilant of those who are living near us.

I have noticed less children playing in their yards and riding bikes as in years before...and certainly less than from my childhood when we were all outside playing all day from dawn to dusk. Most parents today are afraid to allow this anymore, and rightfully so. We are afraid to take our eyes off of them for fear of something like this....a parent's worst nightmare.

I am so happy that Jaycee was able to survive this.

If you look at the cover closely, you can see he's already leering at her...

And if you look really closely, you can see he's leering at the photo of her as a child.

Her children, also, apparently tested at grade school level. She is more than a survivor, she is a thriver. Under hideous circumstances.

What smarts she must have.

Her eyes are not dead, that is a good sign!! I think as horrid as it was to have two children with your kidnapper, those babies probably saved her life and her mind.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to compare self degrading women willing to put up with crap from a man in the same catagory as a child abducted with the threat of death of themselves or their family if they leave.

Psychological brainwashing can happen, especially to a child that is fearful of their life or their family’s life.

Could you put all three pictures side by side? I don’t know how to post pictures or I would do it.

She turned out to be a very, very pretty girl!

Having been - uh umm - associated with a couple stunningly beautiful Irish gals in the past, all I can say is this is the type of look that makes me weak in the knees!!! Seriously weak!!

The age progression is pretty close. But check out the hair style for both. Is that spooky or what?

Oddly enough, there is a lot the age progression got right - with the most notable difference in the hair and the mouth.

Tow-head blondes are tough to figure - they can stay blonde or turn almost black in adult hood.

Mostly though, I’m glad she’s safe

If she had chestnut hair in the middle pic, it would be alot closer.

But I think her real pic shows her eyes a bit farther apart, and her face is a bit rounder.

Either way, she’s still a fine looking young woman!

The press are no different from her kidnappers. They just have cameras.

Hyperbole of the week award.
