Robert Wexler to head Middle East peace foundation
October 13, 2009
WASHINGTON (JTA) -- Robert Wexler, a senior Jewish Democrat, is reportedly retiring from Congress to head an NGO promoting Middle East peace.
Wexler, who has represented his Delray Beach, Fla.-area district since 1997, is the chairman of the Europe subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs committee.
According to the Miami Herald, Wexler told Democratic leaders on Tuesday that he is leaving Congress to head the Center for Middle East Peace and Economic Cooperation.
The center was founded in 1989 by Slim-Fast diet foods magnate S. Daniel Abraham and Wayne Owens, a Democratic congressman from Utah. Owens led the center from 1993 to his death in 2002.
While the center had something of a heyday during the Clinton administration's intensive peace-making, it has been somewhat moribund since Owens' passing.
Wexler took the lead during last year's election in campaigning for Barack Obama among Jews during the primaries; Jewish support was at first heavily behind Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Wexler angered some centrist and right-wing Jewish backers last year when he accepted the endorsement of J Street, the new dovish pro-Israel lobby.
Good riddance. Unfortunately, it’s a safe DemocRAT district.
Good riddance to one of the true leftist nut jobs of the House. This reptile won’t be missed.
He is a repulsive blowhard idiot.
Maybe, I live in his district, hopefully this will give a leg up to Edward Lynch. I am SO glad Wexler is stepping down.
Good riddance is right, Wexler is scum. This can’t be good news for Israel, though.
yitbos
slush fund....the draining of america continues
So in other words another self-hating JINO who will give his all to help the Muslim Obama destroy Israel. Lovely.
Bib should NEVER ever agree to meet with him
I knew a guy that knew him. He said Wexler’s an a$$hole. ‘Thought his guy seemed seemed somewhat of an a$$hole himself.
What to believe among these?
What could possibly go wrong?
Wexler will be representing Al-Queerda.
Wonder if this has something to do with Wexler being called out for not living in his district.
i would prefer that he died.
but at least he will be out of the house and hopefully never seethe wrong side of a television camera.
If this foundation is anything like Jimmy Carter’s “peace” foundation it is heavily funded by Arab enemies of Israel.
Yeah! He drove me crazy during the Bush-Gore Recount!
I remember seeing wexler a while back and thinking that he and jerry nadler are a perfect matching pair of idealogical nitwits. I’ve got an idea about wexlers district though, did anyone ever see an old Eddie Murphy flick called “A Distinguished Gentleman”? Perfect!
NEED TO KNOW Did Cong Wexler vote for (or did he earmark) appropriations for The Middle East Peace Center?
BACKSTORY Wexler lived with his family in Maryland and calculatedly used his in-laws address to establish Florida residency in overwhelmingly Democratic Palm Beach. He was elected in 1996 and has NEVER faced a serious challenge. Wexler won a seventh term with 66.2 percent of the vote.
Seeing that Wexler is Jewish, and his Palm Beach district is Jewish.....I just hope this is not the same wealthy Palm Beach affinity crowd that got wiped out investing with Madoff (sniffle).
So how did Wexler pull of a seventh term win with 66.2 percent? Luckily, Wexler's ardent supporters----"Democrats Living in Israel"----flew in to cast votes for him. The effort to keep Wexler in Congress by flying in planeloads of Democrats did not involve US tax dollars. Perish the thought.
Course, Wexler's new job at The Middle East Peace Center does involve US tax dollars.
Board meetings will consist of putting a multi-billion dollar price tag on the inevitable photo-ops of Peace Pals---Obami and Bibi (in $3500 Armani suits)---shaking hands in the Rose Garden (yawn).
