I don't think the CIA or whoever doing a background check on potential elected officials qualifies as believing in *conspiracies*.

Those DoD umbrella units are bound by the Constitution to do what they can to protect this country and it's populous.
Saying they're a bunch of inept buffoons, who don't have a clue, is a bit treasonous in itself.

However, if these same departments become complicit in acts detrimental to the interests of this country, then we have a whole new *conspiracy* theory.

Go ahead and believe the total chaos then wonder how we got this far.

You are saying that you think that the CIA or whoever is violating the law and conducting illegal background checks on political candidates without a single shred of evidence to support it. If that isn't a conspiracy theory then what is it?

Those DoD umbrella units are bound by the Constitution to do what they can to protect this country and it's populous.

Saying they're a bunch of inept buffoons, who don't have a clue, is a bit treasonous in itself.

To say that they are deliberately violating the law without a big of evidence to support it drifts into tin-foil beanie territory. They are also bound by law as to what they can do and what they can't.

“....I don't think the CIA or whoever doing a background check on potential elected officials qualifies as believing in *conspiracies*.....”

No one does this !
CIA doesn't do it, they have NO AUTHORITY to do so!
I repeat NO AUTHORITY ! In fact I don't want them to do it.
(Again people who believe this live in TV & Movie Land!)
There is NO law requiring LEOs state or federal to do it!
If you undergo a federal security investigation for a federal or contractor job, the investigators are required by law to report any illegal activity they uncover or that you might confess to on a polygraph to the DOJ for possible prosecution. Do you think any politician or budding politician would subject themselves to that kind of scrutiny? In this regard GOP’ers are every bit as bad as Rats! Remember to the Constitution political parties don't exist. (It was set up to manage competing political factions (parties) and basically whittle it down to 2 main factions!) Maybe there ought to be a law to require it, but good luck getting those clowns to pass that law! Heck we haven't had a budget delivered on time since 1975! We make do with these “Continuing Resolutions” which to me are unconstitutional to have them in place in longer then a month. ".... Those DoD umbrella units are bound by the Constitution to do what they can to protect this country and it's populous. Saying they're a bunch of inept buffoons, who don't have a clue, is a bit treasonous in itself. ................" The Intel Community is bound by the same Constitution and is the "trip wire" for the DOD and is equally tasked with protecting the US population. That's how it supposed to work and it sort of does. However it does it in a inefficient sometimes hodge podge manner. Those agencies are government bureaucracies and I am sorry they behave bureaucratically. It's the nature of the government! Read how the Continental Congress behaved in running the revolution, read how the Civil War federal bureaucracy and Congress behaved, read even how the WWII Congress & federal bureacuacry behaved. Today he DNI is now a bloated bureaucracy of several 1000 people, you tell me how adding more bureaucratic layers solve a communication and information sharing problem caused originally by a bloated CONUS bureaucracy (and lack of interest defense & Intel issues by a certain previous administration!) ? What's so different now, is the bureaucracies size & the breadth & scope of federal regulations they must follow. Particularly different now is the micromanagement done by the permanent standing congressional committees. It's all so easy on shows like 24, NCIS etc. However those are fantasy! As far as criticism equating to treason, please read the US Constitution & the Bill of Rights. The Constitution defines treason and the right to criticize is in the Bill of Rights. Anyway my criticism is from a desire to make these agencies work better! (Even though government bureaucracies are inherently inefficient. Read Ludwig Von Mises's book "Bureaucracy", he is one of the founders if not the founder of the Austrian or the U Chicago School of Economics --Also George Mason U Econ Dept Head Walter Williams. Think Classical Capitalism & Milton Friedman!) So you think that my criticism is treason if you really believe that, please get out of this forum and join the Daily Kos or DemoRat Underground you will be more at home there!
