Jimmy Carter Regional Airport Becomes a Reality Despite some opposition, airport near Carter's hometown is named after the 39th president

AP Sunday, October 11, 2009

AMERICUS, Georgia -- An airport about 20 miles from Jimmy Carter's hometown of Plains has been named after the 39th president despite some people opposing the change.

Souther Field Airport in Americus was renamed Jimmy Carter Regional Airport on Sunday.

The Americus City Council and Sumter County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously for the change last month, and the Americus and Sumter County Airport Authority approved it.

Opponents say they have no issue with Carter himself, and would be pleased to see anything else in town named after the former president. They just want to preserve local history including where Charles Lindbergh flew solo for the first time.

Had they wanted to preserve the Lindberg history, they should have named the airport the “Lone Eagle.”

I think anytime anyone sees these guys they need to call them “ma’am”.

ANd then after the initial “WTH are you talking about?” either go off on how ‘hey, I am totally for you gals who like other gals’ or take the same idea towards the transgendered way of thinking with a whole ‘so how’s your transition period going?’ thing.

That would be awesome.

I’m sure Aeroflot wants in. Air Arabia for sure wants to open up a hub. Air Koryo is planning on a deluxe lounge area, including complimentary water (ice available for a modest fee) and gruel. Special Hamas bus tour rates are available with every booking on Air Syria, which is planning on operating daily flights.
