Census officials want to get the message out: It's only about the numbers
Dallas Morning News (hard copy and online version) ^ | September 26, 2009 | Mercedes Olivera

(Hard copy title--"Census officials: It's only about the numbers"--subtitle SHOULD be: "or How many red flags can YOU count in this article?!)

Until she retired last year, my mother was an interpreter for the U.S. Census Bureau. Every month or so, she would accompany a census worker to homes where Spanish was the main language spoken.

Like so many Mexican-Americans of her generation, she's completely bilingual but prefers to speak in her mother's language.

What she found many times during home visits with census workers was, unfortunately, a mountain of distrust, fear and misinformation.

Chief among the unspoken concerns among many immigrants was the idea that they might be reported to immigration officials if they did not have their visas in proper order. To head off any reluctance to participate, she would always begin by saying that the only information the government wants is numerical and is entirely confidential.

It's a message that census officials will be working to convey at every opportunity in the coming months in the lead-up to the decennial headcount. Oct. 1 starts the six-month countdown to April 1, when census workers officially start fanning out through every corner of the country.

Whether it is delivered at budget town hall meetings in Dallas or soccer matches, or even Spanish telenovelas, the census' message will be consistent: It's important to be counted, and your number is safe with us.

Sorry this article is a few weeks old, I'm behind in my newspaper reading. Saw this one today and as I read I found myself getting angrier and angrier--is it just me reading between the lines, or is this columnist implying that the census shall turn it's head at law-breakers and simply count'em up so the democrats can get even more illegals in their database?!

Absolutely. They want the illegals counted so they can pull more Congressional districts into the occupied areas. And elect people whose names end in "-ez". For the express purpose of looting the Gringos.

Nothing in the Constitution requires us to count illegals, not even the loose interpretation of the word "persons" instead of "citizens".

As Justice Jackson said, the Constitution is not a suicide pact. Would we count an invading army?

These little chattering campaigns will now begin in earnest. The whining, wheedling, simpering tone is all designed to portray themselves as "victims" of the Evil Anglos for having immigration laws at all. After all, isn't Invasion a civil right?

But only if you're from Mexico. All others....get in line.

Beck was talking about this one day last week. He made a strong case that illegals shouldn't be counted at all. They are exploited by people who want their votes to count more. The more illegals you find in your district, the fewer actual voters that your Representative has to represent. Your vote counts more if you have many illegals in your neighborhood.

This was also the reason that northern delegates at the Constitutional Convention back in 1787 wanted slaves not counted at all. By not counting slaves, a slave owner's vote in the south had as much representation as an abolitionist's vote in the north.

Southerners wanted them fully counted so that southern, slave states would have more Representatives in the House. The whole 3/5ths thing was a compromise.

If it’s only about numbers then why do they ask so many more questions beyond “How many people live here”?

It's only about the numbers

Yes. Tell that to the folks who got tossed in concentration camps because of the answers that they put on their census forms.

It’s clear that the Obama socialist administration intends to count illegals in the census, so they will know exactly how much they can screw over American citizens. IF the illegsls make up the numbers they’re losing over healthcare and amnesty, then count on them to put the screws to us!

I think anything that strikes fear in illegals is generally a good thing. They are takers. They are destroying us. They should be EXTRACTED.

From the 2010 U.S. Census website:

“What
Count
The census is a count of everyone residing in the United States: in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Island Areas.

Who
Everyone
All residents of the United States must be counted. This includes people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, citizens and non-citizens.

When
Every 10 years
Every 10 years, and the next census occurs in 2010. Census questionnaires will be mailed or delivered to every household in the United States in March 2010. The questions ask you to provide information that is accurate for your household as of April 1, 2010.

The Census Bureau must count everyone and submit state population totals to the U.S. President by December 31, 2010.

The first Census was conducted in 1790 and has been carried out every 10 years since then.”

This is so bogus. We are being scammed every which way but loose. I just hope our goose is not cooked already.

(A) Republicans let Rahm Emanuel steal the census from the Dept of Commerce so that the nasty little toad can politicize it and rig the census to get a permanent Dem majority. Ohaha and his people have NO fear whatsoever of rigging the 2010 elections.

(B) Congress is ignoring the Federal Immigration and Nationality Act that makes it a crime to harbor, aid or abet illegal aliens. Punishment included fines, imprisonment and confiscations of property. ANYONE who is aware of illegals and does not turn them in is breaking the law and could be charged with aiding and abetting.

(C) FREEPER FIRST PERSON ACCOUNT: "I directly witnessed Hispanics ‘coach’ other Hispanics to dupe California census takers ..... they inflated Hispanic numbers living at the address, and made-up names, or listed Hispanics living elsewhere as living at that address....The con was to gain more budget allocations and political representation for Hispanics. That was 19 years ago. I learned later that the this con game was occurring in all Hispanic communities throughout the West. "

(D) Providing false information to a census taker is a violation of federal and state law.

(E) All census takers should be provided with the phone number for ICE (TOLL FREE 1-866-347-2423). Immigration law that requires that aliens be documented for legal entry. (1) Those who sneak into the country are referred to as `entry without inspection (EWI). (2) Others enter with legal documentation and then violate the terms on which they have been admitted by taking jobs that are not authorized or overstaying the authorized period of stay in the country.

NOTE WELL Both types of illegal immigrants are deportable under Immigration and Nationality Act Section 237 (a)(1)(B) which says: Any alien who is present in the United States in violation of this Act or any other law of the United States is deportable. Evidence of illegal immigration should go to ICE 1-866-347-2423.

The frauds just keep on a-coming.....perpetrated by the Mexican government.

QUOTING CONG TOM TANCREDO: “Juan Hernandez headed up the newly-created "Ministry of Mexicans Living in the United States." Hernandez is a very interesting fellow, a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico, and a good friend of presidents Bush and Mexico's Vicente Fox (and John MacCain's Hispanic outreach man). Hernandez said the purpose of the government agency he heads is:

(1) to increase the flow of Mexican nationals to the United States.....

(2) to serve Mexico’s needs.........

(3) to increase remittances to Mexico of $50 billion a year (30% of the Mexican GDP);

(4) to get US jobs for an exploding Mexican population, alleviating social instability due to rising unemployment;

(5) to get free US training for Mexicans, who are expected to return and repatriate those skills back to Mexico.

Hernandez supports amnesty: "By populating the United States with millions of Hispanics tied economically, politically and linguistically to Mexico, we are able to exert enormous influence and pressure on US policy and its dealings with Mexico."
