I'm a proud wearer of a goatee for the last fifteen years. Recently I went a mustache only.. for about 5 minutes. It looked ridiculous. Shaved everything and three days later...goatee was back.

I have had a full beard and mustache since May of 1969. It's gone from bright, flame red to cinnamon splashed with more grey than red but I simply can't imagine shaving it off for any reason.
The problem is, if I did shave it off it would be back in about a week. It grows too fast for me to keep up with.

Couldn't resist posting on this thread... Had it, in varius forms, since 18. Will probably die with it.

. . .in the wake of the porn industry and the womens movement, straight masculinity also started to feel retrograde.

Hubby has always had a full beard and moustash. Guess it just depends on what it looks like on the guy? Though his ego has been starting to get crushed lately when 3 year old’s proclaim “Santa!” to him! LOL

I dunno maybe too many folks think of a ‘stache alone as a symbol of the ‘70s and to me at least, that didn't seem such a great time.
At some time in my late teens, for a very personal reason, it became my style to grow a full beard following more or less it's natural lines. In 35 years since I first wore it I have shaved my face maybe three times, always going back to full beard right away. In the beginning it was red but I don't have far to go now and it'll be Santa Claus white.
My wife wants me to color it because I'm looking for a job, but I consider hiding it, or my half bald head, an act of flim-flam. I wonder sometimes though, if there is anybody who actually respects us old farts, with our hard earned wear and tear, for what we bring to the table.
Certainly our Congress only views us as someone to try and scare. But I never bought their BS and I ain't about to start now.

I’ve tried growing facial hair. It looks bad on me. It also interferes with kissing people with sensitive skin like Mrs. Altair. Given a choice between Mrs. Altair or a mustache, I’ll take Mrs. Altair, thanks.
