NYT’s David Brooks: Obama Nobel Prize Award a 'Joke' and 'Travesty'
Newsbusters ^ | October 10, 2009 | Jeff Poor

Remember just a week ago when New York Times columnist David Brooks slammed the likes Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck? Naturally, that led to the left-wing noise machine, and the media which uses that message for show prep, to suggest there was a split in the conservative movement and therefore attempt to marginalize the conservative message.

However, will they be so eager to echo the sentiment of David Brooks in the wake of President Barack Obama's Nobel Prize announcement? On PBS's Oct. 9 "NewsHour with Jim Lehrer," the Times columnist had some disparaging words for Obama's award - despite a sentiment from some liberals that those who question it were somehow un-American.

"Well, my first reaction is he should have won all the prizes because he has given speeches about peace, but also he's give economic speeches. He wrote a book - that's literature. He has biological elements within his body. He could win that prize. He could have swept the whole prizes," Brooks said tongue-in-cheek before delivering the knock-out blow. "Now - it's sort of a joke."

What a coincidence - David Brooks and Glenn Beck had the exact same reaction to Barack Obama's Nobel Prize...

I am glad to see some on the left are characterizing things honestly. Even if you think Obama is just great, the Nobel Peace Prize was nothing but bizarre. Especially when you consider other possible winners.

He could have swept the whole prizes

David Brooks may be finally getting a glimmering that his side, to the extent that it is guilty of thought, are intellectual anarchists who are ultimately all about gathering power and controlling others. Has his limit of gullibility finally been exceeded?

Yes,I think I read that one of the other persons in the running for the prize had been imprisoned for 17 years for protesting on behalf of the rights of Chinese citizens. It’s not like any award could make up for such hardship, but it would have been an attempt to recognize those who really sacrifice like that.

Nah. This is such an obvious overreach by the leftists that even non-Cons like Brooks can pile on for some credibility.

Well, Obama did (allegedly) take some “hits” from Frank Marshall Davis as a child, right? So, that's kind of a prison (allegedly), right?

Ditto! Don't forget the election protester who has been condemned to death in Iran.

Real hero's who put their life in jeopardy receive no recognition from those old ,irrelevant euro-farts in Oslo.

I just hope and pray nothing happens to this whackoff while he occupies the White House—King was bad enough—MLK was a total fraud, who would have been in the same scrap heap of history as Jessuh and Rev’m Al if he had lived. Christ only knows the cult of personality that would metastasize from anything happening to BO.

Be healthy, BO—and lose in 2012—and when your animalistic base riots in response, that should be the final “jump the shark” moment.
