That will be the eventual solution of this mess — blanket immunity.

&&&&

That is the way leftists always resolve “messy” situations. “Yes, we did wrong, and we won’t do it again. We will craft some new ‘ethics guidelines’, and wipe the slate clean.

However —— when Republicans are caught in a questionable ethical action, it’s hysteria until said Republican has been banished.

By blanket immunity, I mean that several entities will receive immunity from prosecution. These include Zelaya, the Supreme Court, the National Congress, the military commanders, and probably the Attorney General.

It's pretty obvious why Zelaya will need immunity. In addition to the four charges in the Supreme Court's arrest warrant, the Attorney General has levied fourteen more charges against him.

But why the coup participants? Because when Zelaya was deported, Article 102 of the Constitution was violated and a crime was committed the instant that the airplane left Honduran territory -- specifically kidnapping. The military performed the actual deportation, so they are criminally liable. But let's face it -- Romeo Vasquez Velasquez, the Commander of Honduran Armed Forces, didn't come up with this idea on his own: He was told to do it. It will turn out that the Supreme Court and the leaders of the National Congress were in on the deportation scheme, and probably the AG too. So all of these folks have criminal exposure.

Article 102 is easy for anyone to understand. In English, here is Article 102:

No Honduran citizen may be deported, nor may any be turned over to authorities of a foreign government.

Notice that Article 102 forbids deportation for any reason.

Article 42 .- The quality of citizenship is lost:

1. For service in wartime enemies of Honduras or its allies;

2. By providing help against the State of Honduras, to a foreigner or a foreign government in any diplomatic claim or before an international tribunal;

3. Play in the country, without license from the National Congress, employment of foreign nation's military branch or political nature;

4. By restricting freedom of suffrage, adultery election documents or use fraudulent means to circumvent the popular will;

5. By encouraging, promoting or supporting the continuity or re-election of President of the Republic, and,

6. For Hondurans reside naturalized for more than two consecutive years abroad without prior authorization from the Executive.

In the cases referred to in paragraphs 1) and 2) the declaration of loss of citizenship will make the National Congress through circumstantial case to be formed for the purpose. For the cases of paragraphs 3) and 6), that statement will make the Executive by Government Agreement, and for the cases of subparagraphs 4) and 5) also by government decree, upon conviction handed down by the courts.

Zelaya wasn't a citizen of Honduras when he was exiled.
