Iran activist sentenced to death for election protests
Regime's opponents say forced confession was used to convict Mohammad-Reza Ali-Zamani
An Iranian man has been sentenced to death on charges of organising mass protests against Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's re-election as president, according to reformist websites. Mohammad-Reza Ali-Zamani, 37, is the first person understood to be facing execution over the unrest.
Ali-Zamani had confessed to plotting against Iran's Islamic system and belonging to the previously little-known Iran Monarchy Committee (IMC), which the regime regards as a terrorist group. Supporters say he was forced into his confession, which was made at a public trial of prominent political activists in August.
Mowjcamp, an Iranian opposition website, said a revolutionary court in Tehran handed down the verdict this week. There has been no official confirmation.

Ali-Zamani's indictment accused him of meeting US military figures in Iraq on behalf of the IMC before returning to Iran "aiming at causing disruption during and after the election".
Prosecutors said he travelled to Iraq and received instructions on how to make chemical weapons. They alleged he passed information to American military officials aimed at helping assassination plots against Iranian government figures.
He was said to have taken part in an operation that involved passing information on members of the pro-government Basij militia to the IMC, which is run by Iranians living in exile.
ranian officials said he had conducted "vast communication activities" before being arrested by intelligence officers.
An IMC spokeswoman, Dordaneh Fouladvand, confirmed that Ali-Zamani had worked with the organisation but denied he had any role in the post-election protests. His activities had been limited to working for its radio station, Radio Tondar, she said.

The same group has also staged protests on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris to protest the EU's contact and Russian and Chinese support of the islamic regime in Iran.
The sentenced activist Ali Zamani was accused of having contacts to American Officers in Iraq.
Free Iran Ping!
Our Dear Leader Obama wants to extend his hand in friendship to the pieces of crap who now run Iran. It would be farcical if it weren't so tragic.
Because they’re fanatics (and therefore technically insane), the leaders of Iran would happily kill every man, woman and child involved in opposing them. Awful thought.
