Richard RJ Berry appears to be winning a plurality of the absentee votes posted to the Bernalillo county Web site moments ago. Berry now has 41.62 percent of the vote compared to 36.03 percent for incumbent mayor Martin Chavez and 22.18 percent for former state Pro Tem Richard Romero.

Very good.
Just looked at the bond issues, and its mostly a bunch of feel-good lib stuff. A lot of money for parks and recreation.
Yeah, the problem is, I have no idea what precincts are being counted. If this isn’t the GOP leaning areas (such as the East Side), Chavez is toast. Apparently the Dem Councilman from that area, Cadigan, has lost to a GOP challenger as well.
60% in. Berry is now at 41%, the highest since the absentees were reported. I expect they’re going to have to declare him the winner within a half-hour at this rate barring a surprise.

Gotta be faster, beat ya by a second. ;-)
Beat me by 1 second!
Berry needs 40%+1, so as we start approaching 80% of precincts reporting it would be helpful to see Berry’s vote percentage with one (or maybe two) decimal points. The difference between 39.5% and 40.4% is HUGE.
You did it again!
Now at 42%.

Post #51. They gotta call this.
Thanks
I think the runoff is between the two top vote-getters - no 40% threshold.
No, all you need is 40%. If there was to be a runoff, Chavez wouldn’t be in a funereal mood.
I can understand people wanting to spend some money when things are good. But in our current economic condition, we should be managing our resources better. A lot of the bond issues are window-dressing stuff that we can do without. Unfortunately, a lot of people, especially libs in Nob Hill, still think we can spend ourselves out of any problems.
NM Dems are gonna wanna lynch Richard Romero if Berry wins this outright.
69% of the precincts in. Berry is at 42%.
Coming in fast now. 69% in. Berry with 42%.
