Richard RJ Berry appears to be winning a plurality of the absentee votes posted to the Bernalillo county Web site moments ago. Berry now has 41.62 percent of the vote compared to 36.03 percent for incumbent mayor Martin Chavez and 22.18 percent for former state Pro Tem Richard Romero.

I am hopeful. With Chavez and his staff behind closed doors, they have to be worried.
A liberal who does sarcasm. WHo knew?
Is a run-off required if noody is over 50%??
Berry still holding.

To win outright you just need 40%. The Republican Berry is exactly at 40%. If he wins, this will be a stunning upset. The formerly popular Chavez should not be running at 35%, that is simply terrible for him.

This is kind of like crossed phone lines.

Hopefully, Berry will pull it off.
I guess NMPIRG and ACORN were a little less involved this time.
Interesting the media is saying nothing about this, this is a major upset in the making.
If the reports about Chavez’s “victory” party being like a funeral from the start are true, he already knows what’s happened. I just want to hear the media declare Berry the winner. First GOP Mayor of ABQ in almost 3 decades, and not some liberal RINO like ex-Gov. Dave Cargo who nearly beat Chavez back in ‘93, either, but a Conservative.
Half the vote counted, Berry still winning.

Sweet,
I remember Cargo.
He was a decent guy.
56% in, Berry still winning. A State Rep. predicted this would be exactly what he’d get, and it appears he is.

Looking at some of the bond issues it looks to me like NM is for more spending of money they do not have. I don’t call that any kind of conservative victory.
I live in Santa Fe and get the ABQ TV. Mayor Chavez just stated in an interview that if trends hold, Berry will be the next mayor. He seemed to know that the outstanding votes were in precincts not favorable to him.
