Health Reform Subsidy Calculator --
Premium Assistance for Coverage in Exchanges
This tool illustrates premiums and government assistance under the types of reform proposals being considered in Congress for people under age 65 who purchase coverage on their own in an Exchange or Gateway and are not covered through their employer, Medicare or Medicaid.
While the proposals considered would not take effect until 2013, the results are presented in terms of 2009 premium and income levels to enable better comparisons to current circumstances.
The tool allows the user to start with the provisions from one of several proposals and examine the impact at different income levels. Advanced settings allow users to change assumptions to show the effect of different policy choices.
A few caveats:
Specific subsidies for cost sharing and what people might pay out-of-pocket for deductibles and coinsurance are not illustrated on the calculator.
In many cases coverage will be more comprehensive and accessible than what is typically available today in the non-group market, so premiums cannot easily be compared to what people buying insurance on their own are now paying.
The calculator does not apply to people with coverage available through an employer, where the firm is generally paying for a substantial portion of the insurance premium.

My premiums go up by almost $500.
(My apoligies if this does not belong in the sidebar. It seems important and a good tool to pass on to others)
bump ... I’ve got a headache.
My Senator’s office has hung up on me twice.
I called the Washington office and a local office.
Me: My coverage is going to be taken away and I will be forced to pay for a plan that is $400-$700 more expensive. What does the Senator think of that?
Staffer: We will pass on your comments.
Me: I don’t have any comments, only questions. At what point does the Senator think this is too much, too expensive?
Staffer: I will pass on your comments.
Me: Again, I don’t have any comments. Just questions. What other options is she willing to consider to make this more affordable?
Staffer: I will pass on you comments.
(This went on for ten minutes before they hung up.)
Don’t forget the Baucus amendment. 25% tax on the employer paid portion of your healthcare.
The only one of these that’s even worth discussing is HR3400 - the Tom Price bill.
The rest should be scraped immediately!
Thank you for posting. It’s really disturbing. My premium would triple.
Pass the link on to everybody you know.
People need to understand how it is going to affect them.
I have two kids in college. There is no way I can afford several hundred dollars per month extra.

"What's in your wallet?"
I don’t understand what I’m reading there.
I don’t see the figures. How do I know what I’ll be paying?
Unlike a business that needs repeat business and “goodwill” - the gov can screw any group that want to - and that means us - middle class Americans. We’re the group that pays and we’re the group with the fewest benefits.
#1 Choose which bill you are going to calculate. Example “Baucus bill.”
Answer the rest of the questions.
Hit “calculate”
Answer should appear to the right of the questions you just answered.
Over 65, on medicare, paying over a hundred as deduction from SS payments AND $270 a month medicate supplemental insurance AND $39 a month supplemental prescription insurance....
The calculator stops at 64 so I assume that they intend the down funded medicare for us old folks:
So, under all these plans what happens to the supplemental insurance so many of us carry today to meet the costs medicare does not cover?
PS: I've never come close to hitting deductibles on any of this, they're things you carry against 'the big one'.
230.00 monthly premium
5,000 annual deductible
100% coverage major medical
$2760 annual premium payment
Me under government plans:
Baucus Bill:
$7,114
-$2074 subsidy
$5040 annual premium payment
House Ways and Means:
$5,460
-$942 subisdy
$4518 annual premium payment
House Energy and Commerce:
$5460 annual premium
-522 subsidy
$4938 annual premium payment
HELP Committee:
$6084 annual premium
-1069 subsidy
$5015 annual premium payment
These government plans are pure BS. We're getting stuck paying the freight for every lowlife in the country, not only with the premiums, but also with the subsidies.
Completely backwards approach. We're subsidizing poor health and non-contributors.
Yeah my premiums are nearly double, plus I’ll lose my tax deductible expenses, plus I’ll lose my savings against my deductibles.
My figures are pretty much the same.
I called the Baucus’ Finance Committee.
I said, “Why are you taking away MY coverage?”
Staffer: “NOBODY IS TAKING AWAY YOUR COVERAGE!”
Me: “The catastrophic coverage I purchase will not longer be available. Your bill says so. My new premium goes up by over $400 per month. How am I supposed to pay for that? And why is the government spending thousands of dollars per year to take away the coverage I want?”
We have an employer plan and pay 35.00 a month.
This calculates out costs at over 9,000.
I hope that I’m not reading it right.
I find myself shaking my head and muttering, “You bastards, you bastards,” over and over.
My premiums go up by more than $600 a month. I don’t get no stinkin’ subsidy. No surprise there.
$600 a month? No wonder Pelosi doesn’t want anyone reading her dirty work.
