Brooke Army Medical Center at Ft. Sam is the best burn treatment hospital in the US, IIRC.

Amen to that, and it has had that title for decades...let me tell you an old San Antonio "war story"..I was stationed at Brooks, an AFB on the southeast part of town, and there was BAM C, or Brooke Army Med Center... Back in the late 60s and early 70s, a "trick" of the SA cab drivers was to pick a Army PFC or Corporal up at San Antonio International, usually late at night. 9, 10 or so, the PFC/Corp whatever, would get into the cab a tell the driver, "Take me to Brooks".....nothing would be said, the driver knew it was Brooke, but, Brooks was 10 miles further out, bigger fare. I guess I pulled CQ maybe 15 times in my 5 years there, and it happened twice, when an army guy would get out of a cab late at night and walk in to "sign in". Of course, by that time the cabbie was long gone out the gate, and usually the PFC/Corp had just given his last few bucks to the cabbie.....not a problem, in those days, our General had "standing" orders, you know a bit informal..not "carved in stone", to call the motor pool, and give PFC/Corp his ride back to Brooke. The guys at the motor pool loved driving a nice blue van back to Fort Sam with a grunt in the back seat. Great place to be stationed in those days. Not sure if it is the same today...
