Terri Schiavo's Brother Bobby Schindler to Speak at University of Notre Dame

South Bend, IN (LifeNews.com) -- On the heels of pro-abortion President Barack Obama speaking at the University of Notre Dame and getting an honorary degree, a noted pro-life advocate will give a speech at its law school. Bobby Schindler, the brother of Terri Schiavo, whose husband subjected her to a painful euthanasia death, will speak.

Schindler has been invited to speak today at The University of Notre Dame Law School as part of the Jus Vitae speaker’s series.

Jus Vitae is committed to the principle that the right to life is inherent and inalienable in every human being and cannot be abridged by any action of government or any group of citizens.

That is a far cry from the principles of Obama, the pro-abortion president who moved immediately to make taxpayers fund abortions, but who received a platform and award from the prominent Catholic educational institution.

In fact, Schindler condemned the Obama administration in August over a guide it distributed to veterans that critics say promoted euthanasia and assisted suicide.

The Department of Veterans Affairs promoted a guide called "Your Life, Your Choices" that was first published in the Clinton administration.

A worksheet on page 21 lists various scenarios and asks users to then decide whether their own life would be "not worth living."

One section of the guide titled, "What Makes Your Life Worth Living?" asks veterans to check boxes such as "I am a severe financial burden on my family" and "My situation causes severe emotional burden for my family."

Schindler told LifeNews.com the booklet is a disservice to military personnel as well as disabled, ill and elderly persons.

“It is quite clear that the language used in Your Life, Your Choices is encouraging individuals to make life and death decisions based on a ‘quality of life’ judgment," he said. Instead, they should be made based on the "Constitutionally supported position that the value of all citizens is equal and each has a right to live."

Schindler says the guide "encourages the idea that people with chronic health issues, disability or advanced age are ‘burdensome to society."

Schindler's speech is his first major public address following the death of his father Robert Schindler, who passed away at the end of August.

In the aftermath of Terri's euthanasia death, Robert Schindler started a foundation with the rest of his family to help other disabled patients.

The Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation connects patients or their families to legal help, physicians and pro-life groups who would speak out on their behalf to obtain basic medical care or lifesaving medical treatment denied to them by the government, hospitals or family members.

In 2007, the National Right to Life Educational Trust Fund honored the Schindler family with the Proudly Pro-Life Award for their dedication and public witness to the cause of life.

It's nice to hear that some at Notre Dame are still committed to life.

Good news. I wish Notre Dame would become a real Catholic University (again).
