It helps increase the number of ADD diagnoses and that brings in more money from the state for “special education” needs. Every special ed kid is a goldmine.

“Why in the world would schools want to not let kids out for recess?”

Because they need the time to explain why its OK for Suzie to have two “mommies.”

This has been tried in a number of schools around the country. In fact, at the school where I teach we don’t have “recess”. There is a 15-minute break at 10:00 and the kids can play then and another at lunch time. P.E. is two forty-five minute classes during the week.

This is so the academics can all “be covered.”

Frankly, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders do not need much beyond learning to read, write and arithmetic. The science and history that is covered is repeated in the later grades. What is currently taught as separate subjects can be reading material and the information will be learned just as well.

Kids need to exercise their bodies as well as their minds! The obesity “epidemic” is because that has not been recognized.
