'ROSEMARY'S Baby" ("outdoes Hitchcock" -- Roger Ebert), "China town" ("outstanding" -- Variety) and "The Pianist" ("definitive" -- The New York Times) are fine films. They've been rightly honored and praised. The question is whether their excellence justifies criminal acts.
The controversy over director Roman Polanski's arrest in Switzerland on his way to a film festival exposes a stark front in the culture war. The divide is not necessarily between right and left, but between an artistic elite that thinks it deserves its own moral rules, and the rest of us who'll never win the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival or be elected to the Academie des Beaux-Arts.

Just reaffirms my morals and political leanings. If I am wronging counter to all of these idiots, then I am on the right track.
Modern Hollywood simply reveals what happens when you give unlimited money to immature people with very limited minds.
Rich Lowry is spot on, of course.
Hollywood is the same putrid den of iniquity that it’s been since the beginning. That’s a hundred years of depravity. From Fatty Arbuckle to Polanski there’s little improvement.
Did anyone notice the one comment on the NY Post site? Some snarling little fool who calls himself `Patrice Lumumba’. Google that name, just for giggles.
Best line.
“These are the kinds of people who consider Woody Allen a character witness.”
Wow... that WAS funny. That guy is more proof that most of Africa was better off under colonial rule.
Spoiled Hollyweirdoes and Hollyweirdesses.
Hey Whoopy, if the 13 year old was black would it still be rape rape?
'ROSEMARY'S Baby" ("outdoes Hitchcock" -- Roger Ebert)
I always thought Ebert was a moron, now I know why.
You checked it out. Great!
I was a kid then, but I watched on TV as Congolese independence in 1960 dissolved into civil war.
Joseph Mobutu eventually triumphed after offing Lumumba, who would have turned Congo into a Cuban style Soviet client state. He also arranged the capture and exile of Moise Tchombe of Katanga, the only good guy in that entire fracas.
“Patrice Lumumba University” in Moscow trains Third World subversives to this very day, in the “new” Russia.
Rosemary’s Baby?
The creepy, eerie gothic film is about a young newlywed couple who move into a large, rambling old apartment building in Central Park West, and begin a loving, post-honeymoon period. They become friendly with the eccentric next-door neighbors, an overly-solicitous and intrusive elderly couple (members of a coven), and soon the husband’s acting career turns promising. But after a nightmarish dream of making love to a Beast, the paranoid, haunted, and hysterical woman believes herself impregnated so that her baby can be used in the New Yorkers’ evil cult rituals. [Polanski deliberately presented the film with enough ambiguity so that the viewer is never quite certain whether Rosemary’s experiences are truly supernatural or just fabricated, imaginative hallucinations.] The creepy film ends with the devil’s flesh-and-blood baby being cared for by the mother! The incredible irony of the film was that the plot would be similarly played out a year later - Polanski’s pregnant actress/wife Sharon Tate would be terrorized and murdered by the strange cult of Charles Manson followers in her Benedict Canyon home.
I never realized Polanski did this film. This guy’s life and movies would fit right into the satanic occult crime drama. Wasn’t one of his excuses for drugging and raping the 13 year old was that he was traumatized by his wife’s murder? Very creepy.
