Analysis: Chicago's Loss Is A Blow To Obama, Too

By JENNIFER LOVEN and JULIE PACE, Associated Press Writers Oct 2

WASHINGTON – OK, so it wasn't health care, climate change or war. Still, President Barack Obama's high-profile failure to win the Olympics for Chicago could feed negative narratives already nipping at his heels — that he's a better talker than closer, more celebrity than statesman. And this could hamper his efforts on the weightier issues.

Despite Obama's fabled charm and powers of persuasion, his in-person plea for Chicago to host the 2016 Summer Games fell flat.

It was a hugely embarrassing defeat. His adopted hometown — considered a front-runner heading into Friday's voting — didn't just lose, it took last place, shocking nearly all by getting knocked out in the first round while the remaining three contenders moved on.

The defeat could soon be a distant memory, and may never be more than a quixotic-blip trip. But if, for whatever reason, bigger losses start piling up in Obama's corner, his performance in this case could be regarded as emblematic.

Obama tried to put the best face on his trip, saying upon his return to the White House, "One of the things that I think is most valuable about sports is that you can play a great game and still not win." He said he was proud of everyone's effort

One of the things that I think is most valuable about sports is that you can play a great game and still not win.

That is true, and irrelevant. Obama, you loved yourself into the ground in Copenhagen.

Empty suit. They should of listened to us. Alas. They did not. Just as well. It is helping us all rearm and prepare to fight hard in the upcoming elections and shaping of our country going forward toward more conservative values and true American principles.

At least our Commander-In-Chief is consistent.
Seeing how he said he wasn’t interested in VICTORY.
(even in AFGHANISTAN!!!!!)

Sadly, he also seems to be willing to NOT play a great game in Afghanistan.

This is what happens when an egotist starts believing their own press releases.

No biggie, the article may well have been updated over the day, steel. Being aware of prev comments is the more important thing, I think.

Despite Obama's fabled charm and powers of persuasion, his in-person plea for Chicago to host the 2016 Summer Games fell flat.

Key word there is "fabled".

Main Entry: fabled
Function: adjective
Date: 1602
1 : fictitious

There's a lot about him that I think is fabled.

Obama, you loved yourself into the ground in Copenhagen. Here is how I think it happened; and I believe it's entirely plausible:
1) the IOC had its mind made up that Chicago was the right choice;
2) baraq’s insiders on the committee relayed the message; 3) baraq’s strategerists agreed that they should put in an appearance to make it about their persuasion and
gravitas, after all;
4) they decided to include harpo in on the deal;
5) the IOC saw what was happening (baraq was going to use the IOC to glorify himself);
6) baraq suddenly became in their eyes the ugly American personified, throwing his weight around;
7) the IOC decided to fix his wagon and poop on his party.

Boy, did they ever succeed.

And that is where your comment comes in. He thought he was walking into glory-land for a double-whammy PR op (swoops in like a rock-star, complete with entourage, spends some of that kissy-love he thinks he commands on the world stage, saves the day, seals the deal, claims credit, makes it all about HIM). That's where other human beings naturally take umbrage. People in authority don't like to be usurped or upstaged on their turf. baraq failed to understand this; and I think the IOC flipped on him. I think they also conspired and made a 'message' out of giving him the lowest vote count. I think all this is far more serious than most people make out.
