Former eBay executive Meg Whitman, the 2010 gubernatorial candidate who has recently portrayed herself as a "darned good" conservative Republican, endorsed Democratic U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer in 2003, records show.
"Whitman contributed $4,000 to Boxer in the 2004 reelection campaign -- and endorsed Boxer as a part of Technology Leaders for Boxer,'' confirmed Boxer aide Rose Kapolczynski today.
And, she signed an "open letter" appealing for support from the California technology executives, touting Boxer as a "dynamic and courageous leader" on the tech front.
Whitman's name was included in a "Friends of Boxer" release when the committee of a dozen technology leaders was formed in 2003 to assist the California Democrat in her 2004 re-election effort, which pitted her against GOP former Secretary of State Bill Jones.
The move by Whitman to back the Democratic junior Senator came about because "in the spring of 2003, some technology leaders were interested in announcing their support for Boxer, so our campaign went out and talked to a wide range of leaders. And Meg Whitman was among them,'' Kapolcyznski said.
"She agreed to endorse the Senator...there was a fundraising event in Silicon Valley later in the year and Whitman maxed out to the campaign,'' she said.

At least she didn’t contribute to Mc aint
Wuh-roh!
(In a nice way I mean.)
The CRP will back her, just like they backed the idiot Arnold.
Will the “good Republican” be supporting Boxer in 2010?
Hmmm first Boxer then Van Jones what next? Jaun McCain?
She loves her leftist
Conservative my Arse
Anyone who would endorse Mrs. Boxer would have to have their judgment questioned. Boxer has always been a vile, snooty, nasty limousine liberal flaming moonbat.
It’s not possible to like Senator Boxer in a nice way.
Good Bye, Meg. Nice knowing, you. She has to be finished after this.
BTW, Why am I not surprised that she’s Romney’s protege and basically his play to get set himself up to win the CA primary in 2012 and lock up the nomination.
Mitt really knows how to pick them.
Geez, can’t we come up with ANYBODY decent to run in this state to run for the GOP in the governor’s race.
Donks have two FAILED mayors - Brown (Oakland) and Newsome (San Francisco). Brown hasn’t even been that effective an Attorney General.
Get Whitman out of here. She’s an embarrassment.
Endorsing....Boxer?
THAT is not explainable or forgivable.
I shall vote for Tom Campbell in the primary.
.
What's JimRob doing?
R-I-N-O
All of the GOP contenders seem to be soaking wet in one way or another. Whitman is a solid businessperson, but cripes, so is Herb Kohl, and just look at that guy’s politics. It takes more.
Poizner seems “least RINO-ish” thus far.
Campbell, clearly brilliant, once was a solid libertarian Republican, having had Milton Friedman as his Ph.D. advisor, but he has strayed badly in the last 20 years into the land of “just one more tax hike” (the latest such being a gas tax hike proposal). Sorry, Tom, I like ya personally, but our taxes are quite high enough, thanks. Pass.
Poizner seems like the best hope to me. Whitman’s not part of the solution, she’s part of the problem.
Beware of Meg.... she came to Ebay when it was working and drove it off the cliff.... Guess what she’ll do to California when it’s already not working?....
not just endorsed, but maxed out in donations. 4K to the biggest abortion supporter in the Senate. And she was Mitt Romney’s big protege and campaign backer? WTF?
I was not going to vote for her anyway, because of her close ties to Romney and her horrible management at eBay (for the sellers), but my goodness, her judgment just keeps getting worse and worse.
Van Jones, voting record (she won’t answer the question if she registered as a Republican prior to 2007), no to off-shore drilling, and now this. NO THANKS!
We have a perfectly good alternative with Tom Campbell. Say no to Meg.
Remember when Mitt was caught voting for Paul Tsongas? His excuse was it was to stop Bill Clinton from winning the primary. I wonder if he’s advising Meg in her answer to this?
She has been a Republican since 2007, it is amazing how like Romney she is.
