We can all draw the obvious lessons from President Obama's failure to sway the International Olympic Committee to hold the 2016 Olympics in Chicago. Many people thought he wouldn't make his highly visible trip to Copenhagen unless he had reason to know his pitch was going to be successful. Evidently not, as Chicago was the first city eliminated.
The IOC's announcement was greeted with "shock and disbelief," according to the Associated Press. Jesse Jackson, for one, was dismayed:
Civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson, who has long been based in Chicago, said he was surprised by the city's loss.
"I'm shocked and saddened. We were emotionally prepared for it," he said, noting that the United States had sent its "A team" of President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle to push for the Chicago bid.
Come to think of it, there is a silver lining to Chicago not getting the Olympics after all: we won't have to put up with Jackson trying to jump in front of the cameras.
The funniest thing about the AP's account, however, is swimmer Rowdy Gaines' struggle to understand how Obama's mission could have failed:
"I'm still in a state of shock. I can't believe we couldn't get past the first round. I still thought the (Chicago) bid overall was the best," said three-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer Ambrose "Rowdy" Gaines.
"Maybe there is some hangover from politics, from the last eight years," Gaines said.
I suppose that will be the explanation when Obama can't persuade the mullahs to abandon their nukes, either.
The Olympics were awarded to Berlin before Hitler came to power.
Vancouver is holding an Olympics
They don’t like to give North America Two Games in such a short period.
Plus Rio is safer than Chicago.
Who would a thunk... lol
Mmm, mmm, mmm
Barack Hussein Obama
The Messiah was homeward bound
When he learned he got knocked out in the very 1st round
He bet his prestige this deal he could swing
Oh the horror and shame for the would be King
Mmm, mmm, mmm
In all candor, I got that "Ego has landed" from Rush.
Actually one of the senator from Illinois has already blamed Bush for the lost, saying that Bush’s policies that past 8 years caused an anti-americam attitude to exist among the members of the IOC.
I have no problem believing.
Why? Every Obama’s (and dems’ in general) fiasco is by very definition - Bush’s fault. And racism...
Drudge posted it first.
If that’s the case then zero doesn’t have as much charm to overcome it that everyone thinks he does.
Jesse Jackson, for one, was dismayed:................. Well, there is always the race card, but will it work on the IOC? I don’t think so.
“In all candor, I got that “Ego has landed” from Rush.”
Who got it from Drudge.
Who probably got it from some astutely funny poster of FR no doubt
Nope. I didn't coin that phrase.
The Donks have no idea how completely stupid that sounds.
If anything lost the Olympics to Chicago was that whole “Me....me....I” speech that he couldn’t even deliver from the heart - he delivered it with a TELEPROMPTER.
“They dont like to give North America Two Games in such a short period.”
“Plus Rio is safer than Chicago.”
Hell, the Battle of the Bulge was safer than Chicago!
