White House Eyeing Narrower War Effort
Washington Post ^ | 10/2/09 | Scott Wilson and Anne E. Kornblut

Senior White House officials have begun to make the case for a policy shift in Afghanistan that would send few, if any, new combat troops to the country and instead focus on faster military training of Afghan forces, continued assassinations of al-Qaeda leaders and support for the government of neighboring Pakistan in its fight against the Taliban.

In a three-hour meeting Wednesday at the White House, senior advisers challenged some of the key assumptions in Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal's blunt assessment of the nearly eight-year-old war, which President Obama has said is being fought to destroy al-Qaeda and its allies in Afghanistan and the ungoverned border areas of Pakistan.

McChrystal, commander of the 100,000 NATO and U.S. forces in Afghanistan, has asked Obama to quickly endorse his call for a change in military strategy and approve the additional resources he needs to retake the initiative from the resurgent Taliban.

This “narrowing” will no doubt be accompanied by a bunch of smoke ‘em out rhetoric about getting tougher on al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Anyone care to bet me a burger, that one of the “senior advisers” that is challenging General McChrystal is Joe Biden?

God help us all if the First Fool is calling the shots on Afghanistan. If that is the case, and I was the General, early retirement would be looking mighty appealing right about now...

So, in their first three hour assessment of the war in Afganistan in the past 70 days:

After the latte’s were ordered; O’Zer0 made his opening comments with TOTUS; Chuckie Schmuckie Schumer presented his ten minute opening comments; Gates, while stirring his latte, made a five minute introduction of the “issue”; followed by Hillary giving an update on the Horror in Hondouras; followed by Mullin taking about our need to forestall Muslim agression in the middle east;

then:

Zer0 asked for a break “so’s I could take a big dump and piss, so let’s take a 15 minute time out”

On re-convening, Zer0 gives a two minute overview of the nothing that has been said so - far, and gives the microphone over to Robert Gibbs: “The people support everything that you have said so far, Mr. President!

With that endorsement, Zer0 asks Gen Petreous to speak for one minute:

“Sir, one minute is not sufficent time to explain the horrors facing our troops”

Zer0” “General, you’re down to 45 seconds”
General xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Zer0” Now for this cool vidio conference techy thing (Gee I wish that ACORN had this technology)

Hello: Gen McChrystal, Is that be you??
Yeah, Mr COIC. I’m here.

“General, so’s how come you told the US that we have talked only once??

It’s true Sir!

“I be gettin your honky ass out-a Afganistan on the next flight for your dissin your man”

Thank you Mr. President, I’ll start to pack this afternoon.

So goes the first three hour Afganistan session

The article clearly states that is the case...

According to White House officials involved in the meeting, Vice President Biden offered some of the more pointed challenges to McChrystal, who attended the session by video link from Kabul. One official said Biden played the role of “skeptic in chief,”

I get a sick feeling in my stomach lately over the ineptitude in how this is being discussed. Obama’s current war strategy appears to be to impede any gains in the M.E. of the last 8 years and lend aid to the enemy with the current ROE’s.

May God Bless and protect our troops more than ever!
