I guess you're wrong about something. The NBC suits chose Leno. Carson wanted Letterman to replace him (something about Letterman being better, and Leno being a scheming snake). When Leno got the slot, Carson vowed he would never appear on the Tonight Show while Leno was the host. advised Letterman he should move to CBS. Carson's last TV appearance was on Letterman.
Just keeping the record straight.
