Moderate quake hits Central California (5.1 near Death Valley/Keeler)

A moderate 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck close to the earth's surface in Central California early on Thursday, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake struck in a sparsely populated area eight miles (12 km) south of Keeler, California, and 148 miles (237 km) west of Las Vegas, Nevada, the USGS said on its website.

In the sense of North vs. South it is Central.
East to West - The divisions would be The Sierra-Nevada, The Central Valley, and The Coastal Range(AKA The Pacific Crest).

Yeah, apparently Reuters only draws horizontal lines across California! I would have changed the headline, but that is a no-no, as it messes up the FR search function.

I think it's called The Death of a Corporal.
