Waterbury (AP) - Police in Connecticut say a Waterbury officer's .40-caliber pistol somehow ended up in the hands of criminals and has been linked to five shootings in the New Haven area.
The Republican-American of Waterbury reports that arrest warrants have been issued for Sgt. David Setzer, who is expected to turn himself in at the New Haven police department Wednesday.

Do they have one of those ‘prosecute the owner because their firearms were stolen’ laws there?

I hope and suspect there is a lot more to this story.

He has been suspended with pay pending an investigation. The police union will defend him until the end...and he will keep his pension.

Since when is New Haven a crime riddled city? I thought it was supposed to be a nice place. When did it change?

What has he done wrong? Do you know more than the article states?

Well, if pays his union dues and is in the right, they should defend him.

Clearly it’s time to regulate police officer’s guns or just take them away most are racist and use them to kill law abiding citizens any way! (sarc)

You may recall this is where the mayor allowed the Mexican flag to fly in place of the US flag.

LOST OR STOLEN FIREARM REPORTS
Public Act 07-163 requires the lawful owners of any firearm, instead of just assault weapons, stolen from them to file a police report within 72 hours after they discover or should have discovered the theft. It also requires them to report any lost firearm, including an assault weapon, within the same deadlines.
A first-time unintentional failure to report within the deadline is an infraction, punishable by a fine of up to $ 90; a subsequent unintentional failure is a class D felony. Any intentional failure to report is a class C felony.
The act takes effect October 1, 2007.

Lots more to this.
Sgt. David Setzer, a decorated 17-year veteran of the department, is expected to surrender to police in New Haven today on charges of illegally transferring or selling firearms, manufacturing bombs, risk of injury to a minor, illegal possession of explosives and illegal possession of an assault rifle.

Do they have one of those prosecute the owner because their firearms were stolen laws there?Could be, although "failure to report a firearm theft" is the more likely the issue here. Another case of poor reportage. What ever happened to who, what, when, where, why, and how?

When I think of connecticut, I think fall foliage, Bed -and- breakfasts, great seafood. That's certainly still the case. However, when you have a sanctuary city like NH, you get all the problems that go along with it.
Stay out of NH.....head to Branford. You'll have a better time & keep breathing. :-)

Do they have one of those prosecute the owner because their firearms were stolen laws there? Reading between the lines, I get the impression that the cop is suspected of selling the guns to bad guys.
