Republican Mitt Romney on Monday praised President Obama's decision to travel to Copenhagen this week to make the case that Chicago should host the 2016 Summer Olympics, saying the president's personal appeal is likely to ensure the city lands the games.
Until this week, Mr. Obama had indicated he would not be able to make the trip because he was tied down in negotiations over his health care proposal.
"I think his presence makes it almost certain that Chicago will win the bid," said Mr. Romney, who oversaw the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in 2002. "I think we could have easily lost the bid" had the president not gone to make the case for Chicago in person.

Either McCain or Romney always come to the rescue of the democrats when the GOP scores a hit. They are both too dumb to understand what they are doing.Neither Romney nor McCain is too stupid to understand what they are doing.
They understand what they are doing.
They simply do not care whether what they are doing hurts conservatism or not. Romney cares more about himself than anyone or anything else; and McCain seems bent on being a Kumbaya politician. Lets all hold hands and love each other.
Normally, I wouldn't attribute to malice that which I could attribute to stupidity, but at some point, it can't be stupidity because it happens too often in one direction (favoring the Democrats) and not enough in the other (favoring conservatives). If they were stupid, they'd sometimes get it right just by sheer chance.

What did Mitt know and when did he know it?
Obama's Olympic Spirit (O's Buddies Stand to Gain)
The money quote: "The Chicago backers have pinned their hopes in part on winning the support of about a dozen African nations, a bloc of traditionally unaligned votes at the IOC. The administration has tried to make its case in conversations on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, at the Group of 20 Summit, during a Capitol reception with African diplomats and in a video of Mr. Obama personally pitching African IOC members.
Both the State Department and the National Security Council were asked for assistance in preparing briefing materials for use during the UN, G-20, and overseas trips to Europe and Africa in meetings with foreign officials, particularly in the "unaligned" African countries."
Payback to his Chicago homies.

Romney has said that now that Obama is going, Chicago will get the Olympics knowing full well that Rio has the inside track. If Rio wins, Obama is made to look like an incompetent fool who couldn’t pull it off. Get it?

This kind of comment and action from a republican or RINO wouldn’t bother me much at all if I thought they were being wimpish and smarmy mouthed as a ploy to throw the press and democrats off the trail while they actually plot and plan to use the media to help them cultivate public opinion and dump the democrats.
The problem is, they don’t actually think that way - they really are smarmy mouthed wimps

This seems to be his main claim to fame. How many times have we heard about it from the junk media? So true. It was one of the few things I really admired about Romney, too--until I found out he "saved" it by effecting a huge federal Olympic bailout, of the type that he seems to favor as a solution to so many problems.

Finally, the Obama Administration Is Ready to Fight Tough Overseas
CNN: First lady Michelle Obama vowed Monday to "take no prisoners" as she and her husband launch an unprecedented bid for Chicago's 2016 Olympic bid.
Of course we won't. Even if we did take prisoners, we would just end up releasing them from Gitmo, anyway.
Mrs. Obama added that "the gloves are off," making the effort to win the Olympics the only fight with anyone in the world where American gloves are off.
Lots of people commenting on the situation.

Yes, I’m certain the all important Olympic vote oevrrides the importance of responding to our miltary’s request to help win a war we are involved in. Who in the Hell cares about the Olympics other than the Obama’s (and Romney I guess) right now?
To: greyfoxx39
I get it...however, I don't see how Romney can claim the credit for it....you think the country (and Obama) hang on Mitt's words? He is not looking for "credit." He is just setting up Obama to fail, which will help chip away his aura as the Messiah. Sarkozy is backing Rio. So is Spain if Madrid gets knocked out in the early voting. Obama has staked a lot on this visit. If he wins, it is expected as Romney says. If he loses, then he takes a big fall.

What you claim is NOT what the article states.
The article states that GOP-backstabber Romney gave
Obama an out.
""I think we could have easily lost the bid"
had the president not gone to make the case for Chicago in person.
Team Romney has helped Obama over and over."
The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++8 pts. days prior to September 18th, 2008.
So the RomneyTeam attacked Gov. Palin and her children to throw Election2008.
"Frum was indeed a critic of Palin, calling her nomination a "huge mistake" during an October 13 (2008, weeks before the election) Early Show appearance."
David Frum: "Two of our most plausible candidates for president in 2012 are leading Mormons: Mitt Romney and Utah governor Jon Huntsman."
David Frum: "I have a lot of regard for Mitt Romney as a man and politician.
Let me say for the record: If Romney emerges as the Republican nominee, I will support him without qualm."
Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House,
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin.
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
He's in charge on November 5th.'"
The Prowler added: "Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."
The Romney supporters in the McCain campaign had access to internal polling which indicated well in advance of the November 4 election that McCain had no chance to win.
So they began working to position their man Mitt for a run in 2012. Just two days after the election,The Palmetto Scoop reported:
"One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"Im told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palins people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romneys former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
These aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.
Erick Erickson, who organized Operation Leper, said:
"Heres what I think: I think there are some staffers on the McCain campaign who seriously screwed up the roll out of Sarah Palin, to which Governor Palin herself objected.
These staffers are now out trying to finish her off thinking, as typical D.C. types do, that if they dont do it to her, shell do it to them. They just never understood who Palin is or what she is about."
"Likewise, I do think there are some staffers and others who expect Mitt Romney to run again in 2012,
they decided McCain could not win, and decided to undermine Sarah Palin and her chances hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."
"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign? (Mark Wallace, Romney pimp)
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the Diva leak was Nicolle Wallaces husband."
Who benefits most from Sanford meltdown? Californian (that's right) Mitt Romney
"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"
"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"
"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"
"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"
"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"
James Carville (DNC): "It's a feel-good story, this Romney thing. Romney is an ascendant guy."
