Weeds, glass, bricks, pieces of pipe and shingle splinters have replaced the knot of aging homes at the site of the nation's most notorious eminent domain project.
But what of the promised building boom that was supposed to come wrapped and ribboned with up to 3,169 new jobs and $1.2 million a year in tax revenues? They are noticeably missing.

Evil and pathetic.
I would have hopelessly contaminated it. Poured motor oil in the ground. Burned any trees. Sprinkled arsenic into the soil. This looting can’t be allowed. Slash and burn it behind you before you let them steal it. Fight.
I drove by there the other day. What a crime. Meanwhile, Pfizer has a huge Global R&D division right next door. Why does that not suffice for wanted property tax revenues?
Blame the voters of New London, they created the mess. They should pay to fix it.
She may have lost the battle but she won the war. she got top dollar in 06. now the city has nothing
her real victory though are that there the 40 or so states who passed laws preventing this abuse of eminent domain.
AND she shows us what one or a few Americans can do
I couldn’t agree more. Our municipality voted on eminent domain right after this. Tighter restrictions passed at 85+%. We almost lost headquarters of a good business, but as residents we preferred private property rights. Eventually the business was able to get the last piece of land they wanted through private sale and the new buildings are going up. I may be in a tear down community, but that is by lack of interference from city hall.
Still undeveloped? What’s your point?
The government said it needed the land to help raise more revenue for itself! How is the government going to do it’s good work with everyone questioning them all the time!
The government is there to keep you safe and sound even from yourself!
Obey.
Don’t question.

Blaming the Court absolves the truly guilty. The voters who empowered the city government to represent them.
Not knowing the specifics of this case I bet the bastards didn’t lose a single bit of their own private money in trying squandered the tax payers money on this whole mess!
NO 3,169 new jobs and NO $1.2 million a year in tax revenues ... serves those putzes on the city council right ...

“Congratulations, SCOTUS, you’ve won an entry into the history books with one of the most UNJUST and patently UNFAIR rulings EVER! “
And it is only going to get worse from here with a leftest racist on the court who does not believe in any law but the one that is in her mind.
... and the putzes who elected the city council.
I agree, in a situation like that scorched earth is the best policy.
this happened in our town about ten years ago... the city took away an old theatre from its new owner, who was going to refurbish it and turn some of it into condos... but the city council wanted to do it themselves... however, they took their sweet time to buy the theatre, and someone finally purchased it, only to have the city take it away by eminent domain... today we have the refurbished theatre with no one going to it... it was not market-driven... and now we have a handful of people scolding townspeople for not supporting the theatre they never asked for...
The USSC should be a court of equity!
