On Sunday, German voters elected their most business-friendly, pro-American government in decades. Angela Merkel -- the leading grown-up on the world stage -- returns as chancellor.
Merkel's Christian Democrats and Christian Social Union (her party's Bavarian branch) actually lost a few seats, but the pro-business, Washington-friendly Free Democrats roared back to life and more than made up the difference.
On the other hand, the Social Democrats -- Germany's establishment lefties -- took their worst beating in post-war history. The hard-left Greens fell, too. Only the nut-case Left Party gained a bit of ground, thanks to protest votes.

I would call it the anti-Obama vote.

Or another country figuring out that socialism sucks.
They still talk about a “disappearing GOP” even though the generic congressional number favors them—an uncommon event.
so far history is rhyming pretty well.

This editorial may have been written before the final vote tally came in. Merkel’s party ended up gaining seats rather than losing them, as did the Greenies.
The big win by the FDP is certainly a boon for the free market, and ending the grand alliance with the socialists will pay dividends, but I wouldn’t expect much in the way of social policy. The FDP is one of those ‘economic conservative, social liberal’ libertarian-type parties.
Not long, I suspect.

We need to dump a carload of Dhimmis next year to retain any credibility in the world.
Hussein has already ceded the “Leader of the Free World” mantle to Sarko, I’m afraid. But maybe we’re better off.
Maybe they’ll get the hint but I doubt it. The White House is being run by a pack of wild-eyed fanatics.
Zippy ought to remind himself that if the highly organized Germans—especially the Prussians of East Germany—couldn’t make communism work, neither can anyone else.
They can only sell what the people will buy and Europeans have been indoctinated very thoroughly into social liberalism.
Given the current demographics and projections for the future, it is open to question how long that right turn will last.
Immigration policy has to be tightened up, both here and in Europe.
The imams are just biding their time. They can read the writing on the wall.
