Thanks for replies/considerations of posts.

MestaMachine’s post just upthread makes me wonder if there will be any jobs for the locals

Trying to stay within guidelines...(factual as read/recall, non PC)

One of the reasons (as I recall) that the town wanted to have the jail was to provide jobs for the locals. Training would be provided. Ancillary business/jobs would open, stay open.

Business owners were having problems with customers/tourists shying away due to ... people hanging around their shop entrances.

Please realize, towns here may be very small. Typical of our thoughts of Mayberry RFD, but western main street. It might only be a single street. You can imagine the job prospects, service only if that. Manufacturing is nil.

Again, Thank you both/all for your time and consideration

So the solution is to have your local government going into debt building a big jail that they have no need for in the hopes of attracting some kind of contracts that they are not sure of getting?

Folks, whether it's your state or local government, spending us into debt or dreaming up ridiculous and expensive projects is not the solution to your problems (unless your a Democrat).
