TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras Honduras' coup-installed government silenced two key dissident broadcasters on Monday just hours after it suspended civil liberties to prevent an uprising by backers of ousted President Manuel Zelaya. Dozens of soldiers raided the offices of Radio Globo. Officials also shut down Channel 36 television station, leaving it broadcasting only a test pattern.
Rene Zepeda, a spokesman for the interim government, said the two outlets had been taken off the air in accordance with a government emergency decree announced late Sunday that limits civil liberties and allows authorities to close news media that "attack peace and public order."
Supporters of the deposed leftist president vowed to march in the streets Monday in defiance of the emergency order and carry out what Zelaya calls a "final offensive" against his ouster on the three-month anniversary of the coup.
"They took away all the equipment. This is the death of the station," said Radio Globo owner Alejandro Villatoro, describing the dawn raid on the station.
Station employees scrambled out of an emergency exit to escape the raid that Villatoro said involved as many as 200 soldiers.
He said the office remained surrounded by soldiers. It was the second time soldiers have barged into the station the first was June 28, the same day Zelaya was ousted.

Zelaya has been sitting in the embassy using these stations to broadcast and summon his “supporters” to the embassy. Furthermore, the rest of their broadcasting consists of nothing but Chavista propaganda, basically, incitements to violence.
This is basically crying fire in a crowded movie theatre. Zelaya, Chavez and the left want very much to provoke a situation where violence breaks out in such a way that the Hondurans will have to put it down violently. Micheletti is doing everything possible to prevent this.
He is going to the Supreme Court and the legislature to discuss this and work out a plan so that constitutional guarantees can be maintained without, at the same time, allowing the left to use them to foment the violence they are so desperately trying to encourage.
There was no coup. The Constitutional government arrested and exiled a criminal. Their mistake was not putting him in prison in country.
Actually, I just read that Micheletti lifted the state of emergency at the request of Congress.
There was no “coup installed government”.
Their legal system worked! A president was trying to stay in office longer than allowed, and the courts/legislature did their duty to stop him, using the military. They will once again have free elections to choose their next elected leader. The AP wrote this story based on a false premise.
AP spreading propaganda again and again with the coup BS.
I see the commies at AP are in full voice, as always.
Their Supremes ruled. Done deal.
tell myignorance about it
They did things halfway. Nobody should have been allowed to take those pictures.
Are “the people” actually getting antsy about this? Do they just want to sit back and eat popcorn while watching this would be coupster Z as if it was McCain vs Obama?
I think he’s making some kind of ironic point. Either that or trying to be an annoying contrarian. At this point the notion that it was a “coup” has pretty much been shot down.

you should have heard what these stations broadcasted.
Channel 36, the other govt channel during Z’s govt, was used to extend his propaganda avery single day. He received monthly checks of $ 10,000.00 NOT because of publicity or ads. These checks are not justifiable by the former authorities.
After the succesion the channel has been used to call protests and civil disobedience.
wonder why some soldiers’ faces are hidden during interviews?
Would you like to be seen on television especially if something very big is about to start?
Still another Obama troll?
That channel should have been shut down as soon as Zelaya was out of the country.
